The Accountant

Starring: Ben Affleck, Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons & Jon Bernthal

Grade: A-

Ben Affleck plays Christian Wolff an autistic numbers genius who uncooks books for some very bad people and has attracted the attention of the Treasury Department. Oddly enough it’s when he takes what’s supposed to be a safer more legitimate job that everything goes to hell for him.

I enjoyed this movie in the end. At times it did feel a little long and could definitely have been cut in places. (I sometimes judge movies on how much my back is bothering me by the time they end. So yeah, this one could have moved a little quicker.) The performances were very good throughout. It’s one of those movies where impressive people just keep popping up and you’re like, “Oh, it’s him! It’s her!”

There are a lot of flashbacks and somewhat random scenes throughout the film but I did feel like they did a good job at the end of tying it all together and everything making sense. There was one twist I called but I think it was pretty obvious and there was one bit at the end that I didn’t see coming that made me smile when it was explained. Also they don’t do a couple of things that I was totally sure they were going to…

That makes no sense right? It’s hard to explain without giving away spoilers!

I do wish Anna Kendrick had a bit more to do mostly because I love her. 🙂 Ben Affleck was good. I appreciated how they treated Christian in that they never mocked him. Although there were a couple of times where I was getting Batman vibes that I shouldn’t have been getting.

Overall it was a pretty enjoyable time at the theatre. I just think some things could have been cut to let other things breath. Honestly, maybe the whole treasury department investigation could have gone- as much as I loved the conclusion.

Recommend: Yes. It was not perfect but still entertaining and has a great cast.
