Minotaurs, Hamburger Gods & New to Me Book Finds

helen and troy's epic road quest

One of my goals this year was to just hit the bookstore and find books I had never heard of that jump out at me. I found some good books in January although the results of the actual reads have been pretty mixed. Of the latest batch to go on my TBR that I’ve actually read is this one about a Minotaur girl, a hamburger God, an Orc biker gang and a old-fashioned modern day quest.

Secret Reading Habits: Guardians of the Galaxy Edition

Guardians of the Galaxy

So I’ve been going through The Avengers basically giving them favorite books they wouldn’t want anyone to know they read book playlists in a a way and the Guardians of the Galaxy- about to appear in Infinity War seemed the next route to take.

Below my choices for what the Guardians (and some not entirely Guardians) would read in their spare time. The ones they wouldn’t want people to necessarily know about…

Who Doesn’t Like Stuff?

The Bling Ring

The Bling Ring

Directed By: Sofia Coppola

Grade: C-

The best part about this movie was the stuff.

The Bling Ring is my pick for The Blind Spot Series for February. I kind of had some trouble picking this month because I didn’t want something heavy. (I’ve been trying to catch up on the heavy Oscar movies after all.) The film is about the Hollywood Hills burglaries that happened a couple of years back hitting some big celebs that turned out to be orchestrated by a couple of kids.

And welcome to a newer creeper motherhood.

And also what it means to be a person. To be real. To be afraid. To be learning. To be out of control.

Worthy of the Hype? Lady Bird

Lady Bird

Lady Bird

Directed By: Greta Gerwig

Grade: B+

This movie has a lot of hype to live up to, a near perfect Rotten Tomatoes score and just the general idea since I saw the preview I thought I’d really enjoy it. Under those high circumstances I don’t think it entirely lived up to the crazy hype. I thought when it came down to it the writing and the performances were the best part.

Lady Bird is crazy relatable both in good ways and bad.
