January Recap: I Devoured the Books

january recap

I don’t usually do recaps but I wanted to try this year for a personal project as much as anything. I think somewhat keeping track of what I read and watch and the amount, for me, is a good sign of my mood and what’s going on in my life. It’s one of the reasons I went back on Goodreads and started a Letterboxd account to help.

January Goodreads

I also reread Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows this month. So yeah, I read a lot of books. Night Shift which is a picture book about dragons and depression was only a couple of pages. You can read it in ten minutes.

My anxiety is high and I’ve been sick all month so I basically devoured the books. There were also so many new releases I wanted to read right away. I also don’t usually read many books at the same time but it was like I couldn’t help myself this month! 🙂

I started David Sedaris’ Theft By Finding Diaries but man is it dull. And Meet Me at the Cupcake Cafe was started in January but it’s taking me forever and bloody annoying!

Unearthed by Amie Kaufman and Megan Spooner was a new release I was looking forward to. It was an okay read. But fairly predictable and I don’t think I’ll be going on with the series. Same with Kiss of Deception it had it’s moments and I do hear the series gets better but I don’t know if I care. There’s so much else out there.

january movie diary

Movie wise it wasn’t a bad month. But everything I’ve wanted to watch recently has been mostly nostalgia based. I enjoyed Jumanji and I don’t feel the least bit bad about it. The Greatest Showman was weird. I’m usually iffy on musicals but this one I liked the music, the performances and the soundtrack better than the actual movie.

And rewatching Mad Max it’s truly amazing how beautiful that movie is and how I always find something or some element I missed.

Black Panther and Annihilation are February releases I very much want to see. I’d love to catch up on the Oscar releases as much as I can. Book wise I’m hoping to finish some series this month and concentrate on the huge pile of books I’ve stockpiled.

Television has been pretty sparse for me. It’s been comfort shows all month (and longer) I can probably recite some episodes of Parks and Recreation and the Big Bang Theory by heart at this point. But Jessica Jones and Westworld Season 2 are both on the horizon so hopefully that’s looking up!

I hope everyone has an excellent February!
