This could also be called: Attempting to Get My Shit Together this Summer! I don’t really believe in bans- at least not for myself- because the minute I’m banned from something I want it more than anything.
But I have been encouraged to think of things as more of a challenge. I mean below is just some of my May book haul. 🙂
If any of these signs you may need to go to book buying prison apply to you don’t take it personally because they all apply to me.
You have never not wanted to go into a bookstore or buy a book.
Your sneakers have holes in them still because you keep using the shoe money to buy books.
Friends and family thought about not buying you books for your birthday because they consider it ‘enabling’ at this point.
You’ve occasionally let groceries slip by the wayside in order to buy books. (But never ever pet food! You would never even think of that!)
Your significant other has nightmares about being buried under your physical TBR pile & never found because you keep adding to it.
The post lady considers deliveries to your house her daily strength training and the delivery guy asks what you do in publishing.
Your judgement of great art is mostly based on book covers & you want to own the ones you love.
Occasionally you’ve been known to utterly lose track of time while book shopping- even on-line.
Book store customers ask you where to find things… and you know.
Book store employs ask you for recommendations & then politely remind you to direct the customers to them because you don’t actually work there.
My first challenge is simple enough: no new books until I can clean and reorganize my shelves. I unhauled and donated about forty books last month and then… didn’t bother to reorganize the shelves or put up the stacks of books I have lying around. (I can half-ass anything!)
So hopefully the challenge will work long enough to make me do that!

Yup. This sounds like me! My man is ready to kick me out of the house because there isn’t room for the two of us… Little does he know that given the choice between him and my books… He might not win. 😉😂🍻
Ha! I figure he can save himself if he really tries.
I have enough books for about 5 years 🙈
Yet, i can’t walk past the charity shop without going in.
Also can’t resist books for kindle when they go for 99p and i wanted them at some point anyway. I keep telling myself I’m saving money 😂
Oh gosh! Kindle is the worst! .99/ 1.99 well okay! I can’t beat that and I’ll read it. What really happens is I wind up cleaning out the books on the device and remembering I have it! Gets me every time though 🙂
This post is so relatable! Hahaha. I can’t resist buying ebooks for my kindle when they’re so cheap! Lovely post! 💕
Oh I completely understand that. Anything 2.99 or under and I can’t stop myself from pressing the buy button. They know what they’re doing!
I don’t think I’m physically able to go by a bookstore and NOT go in. It would be really hard.
It’s pretty much habit now. On some occasion I drive around 180 miles to go to bookstores with my friend from high school!
What an awesome post! About half of the ones apply to me 😀 I wish I had a bookstore where everyone knew me! Tho there are bookstores where you can trade in your old books for credit to buy new books! If you un-hauled 40 books I am sure that could have gotten you a decent amount of new books! (Tho donating them is way more noble but slightly less fun)
Oh, I’ve sold books before. Though nothing beats selling back college textbooks. The only bookstore in my area is Barnes and Noble 🙂 Scary to think that if B&N goes under there won’t be any.
Oh, I can relate with eBooks. And recently ARC – I stopped myself requesting any news ones – as soon as I get on NetGalley I know I won’t be able to resist. I genuinely want to read them all… 🙈🙈🙈
Well done for donating your old books! And good luck with organising the new ones. 😊👍
Thanks! I need to get on that because I am itching to buy some books already 🙂 No time until the weekend though!
Great list! I don’t have holes in my sneakers but I’m currently running low on shoes!
Also, To kill a kingdom is an interesting read and I’m also looking forward to reading The Poppy War.
Can’t wait to read To Kill a Kingdom! The Poppy War is pretty good so far. I’m only about two-hundred pages in but it’s actually been a fast read!
Would love to see your thoughts on To kill a Kingdom!
hahaha this is such a brilliant post! And completely relatable! I actually have to get a new pair of trainers cos my old ones have holes… and I’ve seriously contemplated not bothering them cos *new books* 😉 Really relate to this lol!
Ha! Good to know I’m not alone. I did eventually crack on the sneaker thing once my mother pointed out that shoe stores have sales too and urgent care for stitches when I step on something will cost me more in the long run 🙂
I peek awesome titles. And good luck, I had been clearing my pile too. So far so good.
