Happy Birthday Harry… a Tag & a Ramble

harry potter tag

I was tagged by the awesome blogger Sophia Ismaa in the Harry Potter Tag! And since today (July 31st) is Harry’s birthday it seemed like fortuitous timing. Also now I can totally (and completely unjustifiably) pat myself on the back and tell myself I’m working on tags.

So below I answer the questions and possibly ramble about Harry. FYI I took the Pottermore quiz to answer the first three questions in said tag.

Follow Me into this Dark & Creepy Cave

the anomaly

The Anomaly

By: Michael Rutger

Grade: B

This book is full of things I would never do. Explore a cavern high in the walls on the Grand Canyon… nope. Especially a cavern that I believe the government concealed discovery of the first time around… nope. And maybe if I did one day strangely get that far the rest of it would go like this:

Oh, it’s just a cavern! Kind of a disappointment.

Wait, look is that stairs over there?

We should follow them and see where they go!

Me: Nope. I’m out. Sunshine please!

A Writer’s Subscription Box!

scribbler box

Well I went and found another subscription box I couldn’t resist! Scribbler is a box for writers made by writers and I had been so good recently but when I saw this I had to jump at it. July was my first box and the topic was “Setting,” which is something I do have a problem with in my writing!

Please Pass the Parachute

Airplane!

Airplane!

Directed By: Jerry Zucker, David Zucker & Jim Abrahams

Grade: D

Airplane! was my Blind Spot pick for July and first of all I want to say that humor is different for everyone. Plus I really did try to think of this movie (like all of them) in the context of its time period (1980)… but at this point I don’t believe I can entirely do that. I also tried to honestly consider if I would have liked this movie better ten years ago.

Probably not.

Spinning Silver

By: Naomi Novik

Grade: C

Spinning Silver was one of my most anticipated books of the year and unfortunately, it was a bit of a let-down. I loved Uprooted (the authors last novel) but I think this one could have used another pass at editing.

Finally an Aquaman Trailer!

war seahorses in aquaman trailer

“Permission to come aboard?”

Like he has to ask!

One of my two most anticipated films of the year- DC finally stopped screwing around and feed me the Aquaman trailer!

And I must say that much Jason Momoa in one shot was like balm after a really crap morning. 🙂 I think this trailer actually had a ton of pressure on it because of the effects because of the question of how the underwater stuff would work but I must say it looks amazing!

Life Lessons from Winnie-the-Pooh & Friends

The Complete Tales of Winnie Pooh

By: A.A. Milne

Grade: A

I completely forgot when I was patting myself on the back about reading Pride and Prejudice last month that I had also read the Complete Works of Beatrix Potter. So go me two classics! Now four!

Honestly the Beatrix Potter and A Madeline Treasury were really cute, great illustrations and I’m glad I read them but definitely not my thing. Growing up I always had a closer affinity for not just Pooh but the whole gang in the Hundred Acre Woods.

Fly Me Over the Edge

Fly Me

By: Daniel Riley

Grade: C+

You know how in real life when you’re watching a train wreck situation in someone’s choices you may just shake your head and think I can’t believe that? There’s a good and bad side to fictional train wrecks. You don’t feel bad about watching.

But you eventually might think: no- I actually don’t buy that.
