The Last Time I Lied Tour Stop & Giveaway!

the last time i lied

Hello! It’s another blog tour and a giveaway!

15 years ago Emma Davis watched her cabin mates Vivian, Natalie and Allison slip out in the middle of the night. They hushed her and told her she was to young to go with them only to never been seen again.

Now an up and coming artist in New York Emma, who paints the girls into all her work, is asked to return to Camp Nightingale as a painting instructor. The wealthy family that owns the camp thinks it will make the reopening look better that she’s involved since the disappearances became a media storm. Emma on the other hand wants to face her past and just maybe find out what happened to her friends.

Almost immediately things take a turn. Emma believes she’s being watched and not only does she find clues Vivian left behind years ago- she begins to see Vivian herself wandering about the camp. The family begins to distrust her. There’s a camera pointed only at her cabin. A fireside tale of the camps origin that may prove true and mounting memories begin to tear at the thought of who she can or can’t trust.

The Last Time I Lied

By: Riley Sager

Publisher: Dutton Press

Release Date: July 3, 2018

Genre: Adult, Mystery, Suspense, Thriller

Grade: A

A twisty thriller with a questionable narrator and a creepy setting I really enjoyed this one. (Okay, okay. If you like camping and such you might not find the setting creepy at first- but the story of the camp certainly helps!)

The two timelines work really well here and while all of the characters might not be that in-depth Emma and Vivian are and those are the two that count. (I also liked Theo a lot.) Most impressively for a mystery it kept me guessing until the end. I also think it came together nicely. The big reveals worked and it all made sense. Love to see a follow-up on that ending though!

I also think I just generally like unreliable narrators better when the narrator is unsure as well. When memory and the world and quiet possibly mental health is turning against them. Not characters who straight up tell you that you can’t trust them. Although if I had a fault with this one I thought Emma behaved a little too stupidly here and there but considering the stress she was under I suppose you could give her a pass.

Recommend: Yes. The Last Time I Lied is definitely a fun enjoyable read. (Considering the camp setting especially for summer.) I’ll be checking out Final Girl’s and whatever else Riley Sager writes in the future.

About the Author

Riley Sanger

Riley Sager is a pseudonym of a former journalist, editor and graphic designer who previously published mysteries under his real name.

Now a full time author, Riley’s first thriller, Final Girls became a national and international bestseller and was called the “first great thriller of 2017” by Stephen King. Translation rights have been sold in more than two dozen countries ad a film version is being developed by Universal Pictures.

The Last Time I Lied was inspired by the classic novel and film “Picnic at Hanging Rock,” and one horrible week Riley spent at summer camp when he was ten.

A native of Pennsylvania Riley now lives in Princeton, New Jersey. When he’s not working on his next novel he enjoys reading, cooking and going to the movies as much as possible. His favorite film is Rear Window. Or maybe Jaws. If he’s being honest it’s actually Mary Poppins.

    1. The link is just comment or like so you’re entered! I’ll use the random generator thing on the 20th. Things got away from me this week so I didn’t have time to figure out Rafflecopter 🙂

  1. This book sounds soooo good!! I love thrillers. And I’ve heard such great things about this one.

  2. I read an arc of this book and completely loved it. I love it better than Final Girls and that was a favorite read.
