My Blogging Confessions

harley's true confessions

I’ve been enjoying reading everyone’s Secret Life of a Blogger Tag there’s something about it that makes it sound like an expose! So I thought hey, let’s expose all my blogging confessions & get it all out in the open!

I hesitate to screw up likes that are even numbers. Like do I want to be the 101st like? The 51st? (I still do it!) But I pause especially if I’d be like number 66 or something.

I do love to make like’s even though.

I get tired of the (mainly social media driven) need to apologize for some things (i.e., the number of books I buy, where I buy them, what books I enjoy or don’t enjoy and how I read them)… though I find myself apologizing anyway.

Often a film or a book for me is just escapism, a laugh, a cry, day-dreaming about the characters/actors and drooling over costumes and hair. And that’s okay. There’s nothing wrong with that.

Friend: When did you become such an Aquaman fan?

Me: Um…

aquaman
I’m genuinely interested and excited for Aquaman but let’s just say the casting was what peaked that interest!

I no longer care that 50 Shades of Gray is bad but what still bugs me years later is that one sex scene on the honeymoon I still don’t understand.

Fifty Shades of Grey

I still have to stop and consider how to correctly use- there, their and they’re. Every single time.

I can never just say that I’m not going to finish a series- even if I know better. Like the minute I do there’s a screaming voice in my head going, “But you should! What if you love it? How can you just close your mind? You’re so close to the end!”

Me: Oh my God! Shut-up! I didn’t even like the last one…

Voice: But look, it’s in paperback!

I never have my Goodreads currently reading list complete because I’m legit afraid it would make me look indecisive and scattered. (Which I probably am but I don’t want to look that way.) 🙂

Of all the tags in the blogging/vlogging world I do not understand the Predict Your 5 Star Reads Tag- to me that seems like seriously asking for disappointment..

In the end I always fall for the hype.

Sheldon Cooper
But everyone was buying it! But everyone was so excited for it!

I check Netgalley way too much- not to get books but because I’m paranoid I’m going to miss an archive date (or have one change) and thus have my percentage hurt!

Movie-Watching 9 times out of 10:

Me: I really, really want to watch something tonight. There’s so many good flicks available!

Spends 30 minutes or more simply watching previews trying to decide which one to choose.

Me: Shit it’s to late to start a movie now.

And I think that’s a fairly good wrap-up of all my blogging confessions! I have reading and film-watching confessions but that will have to wait for another time 🙂

  1. Deciding on a movie is tough! There are so many… I’ve had that happen way too many times! And yes what is it about even numbers?? I think it’s an OCD thing for me lol- there’s something comforting about a nice even number. 🙂

I’m all for escapism too. Not everything has to be a teaching moment or social fix. I mean there’s a place for that of course but sometimes I just wanna read?

    1. Oh my gosh! I actually have a movie wish list and I still can’t decide half the time! I love it when they go to 99 cents cause then it’s like yeah, now or never thanks for making that decision for me 🙂

  2. I love the bit about feeling the need to apologise for things! This is me all the time and I really should need to or feel like I should! Yes I love the casting for Aquaman too!! No need to explain yourself there! haha. My confession is I don’t have a goodreads! It scares me that it will be one thing to many to update etc. haha

    1. I stepped away from Goodreads for like two years because the challenge would drive me crazy. You’re five books behind schedule was all it would take and I’d be devouring every short book I could find! It was actually affecting me love of reading but I think in terms of the challenge I’m handling it better this year 🙂

    1. At least I get the impression we definitely aren’t the only ones there!
DC: Aquaman will appear in Justice League.
      Me: Whatever.
      DC: We’ve cast Jason Mamoa.
Me: Wait. What? Aquaman is my favorite! 🙂

  3. Lovely post! I can relate to a lot of your confessions 😀
The past 3 days i was stuck on youtube (of all things), watching all sorts of random videos about exercise, eating and hairstyles when i actually wanted to watch some series on netflix but couldn’t make up my mind 😀

Netgalley is a dangerous territory i’ve been trying to avoid since May… i made the mistake of requesting too many books that came out at the same time, so i’m pretty much behind right now. Not good.

As for the series: maybe you haven’t come across something truly horrendous yet, which is actually a nice thing. And you know, maybe you are right and the later books will be better! 🙂

    1. Most shameful Youtube moments are probably watching exercise videos to see what the moves and then realizing I’ve watched five or six and done absolutely nothing!
True about the series maybe I’m just that optimistic about books! 🙂

  4. I have never ever paid attention to which like number I am but I am pretty sure I am going to be unable to stop myself from doing this in the future 😒😒 Gee Thanks! 😉 hahah

I think like half the world (both male and females) are now Aquaman fans because of Jason Momoa *drools* And deciding which movie to watch is so hard!!!!

  5. Ha ha, what a great post. I’m so relating to this.

Netgalley is my nemesis, I’m so behind there. Whenever I visit it to write a review / give feedback, I end up with requests I did not plan. So every book I review usually results in 4-5 requests, which may all get approved… you see how I could be behind given this maths… 😂😂😂🙈

You very neatly summarised my watching indecisive behaviour.. I recently started applying it to books as well… 😊😂😂😂

    1. For some reason it didn’t occur to me that requesting more books would change my percentage! I saw that after a couple of requests and was like what? no! I was at 80% it should carry over 🙂

With books at least I can jump back and forth between four or five at a time. Unfortunately I haven’t figured that out with movies especially when you only get them for 48 hours or so. Maybe one day!

      1. Ha ha, that percentage observation also took a while to comprehend… 😉

I know, those 48 hour rental periods are so not fair once you start watching… I do struggle to finish within that time frame quite a lot….

  6. I do the same thing when deciding to watch a movie too!!! Hahaha. And that casting for aquaman definitely has me interested. Hehe. Lovely post! 😊

  7. YES to apologizing for things. I’m learning to not, because why? I’m gonna live my life. 🙂 Great post, I enjoyed this. 🙂

  8. I don’t blame you for being interested because of Jason Momoa… I mean, no explanations needed. 😍
Yep, by the time you’ve finally decided what to watch on Netflix, it’s time to go to sleep. When we’re presented with too many options, our minds cannot handle it lol.

    1. Netflix is the worst! When I finally think okay maybe this movie it’s like well, I could also watch two episodes of that show and it all starts over again!

      1. Loooool! It’s like going into a candy store and you just don’t know what to pick… or even a completely new restaurant. Baffling behaviour on our parts.
I’m supposed to have a new post up tomorrow about blog confessions, is it alright if I use blogging confessions as the title? Because I did see it here first and don’t want to be a d***.

  9. I had to restrict myself from NetGalley because I am too far behind and they keep tempting me with widgets and auto approvals!😱 I know that’s a great thing but not when you’re ridiculously behind because of a NetGalley addiction!😧😩 Great Post, Gemma!😍 I always love learning more about you. Sorry that I have been behind on commenting on your awesome blog.

    1. Glad you enjoyed it!
No worries about commenting ever 🙂 Work has been killer lately and I always feel like I’m behind on commenting. Right now it’s head above water mode!

  10. Haha.. I am with you on deciding which movie to watch! Happens to me alllll the time! 😉

Loved your confessions! I say, I agree and can relate to most of them! 😉

  11. the need for apologizing .. 😂 SAME.

I’ll admit .. I work at a sexshop and the ONE thing I cant stand of 50 shades is that people use it as an outlet for trying BDSM… which we know is a bad rep (ie; make a “spotlight” for when the last movie came in theaters) just, NOPE please !!

    Great post, loved it xx

  12. I have SUCH a hard time keeping up on my Goodreads… I’m pretty sure that I am currently reading about 22 books because I put them to currently reading and never move them from there! 😂 They just sit there forever until I can find a moment to put my review in…. Some day…

  13. I don’t understand the whole apologising thing. People would apologise for liking/disliking a book and not post anything on their blog for a while. I mean you have life, right?
I usually get confused between whose and who’s!
    You’re an Aquaman fan?! *High-five*

    1. I get not wanting to ruffle peoples feathers but then again some people need to get over it. Like if you liked a book that I didn’t really won’t hurt my feelings in fact I might look at the book in a different light based or at least consider your points. Same if you disliked a book that I loved. I mean the only thing that annoys me there is when people start the whole anyone who liked this book is an idiot! That bugs me a bit. We can have differences of opinions without insulting anyone intentionally or not 🙂
