Okay, so The Spy Who Dumped Me is a comedy and Mission Impossible: Fallout an action/drama but they both totally made me want to hop on a plane immediately and go running off to Europe.
They also bring up some interesting life questions.
Who’s your ride or die? Your Morgan or Benji? Would they murder for you? Would they give up a cache of plutonium for you?
Is every spy or secret agent so damned hot? I mean I kind of thought undercover operatives should specifically be forgettable. Henry Cavil passes you by on the street you’re probably going to check him out. Well, okay. I am. (His boss does in that one scene.)
Some travel agent should offer a “spy” package vacation… although I can also see issues arising from that kind of thing 🙂
Okay, okay. On to the important stuff.
Audrey (Mila Kunis) is dumped by her boyfriend only to find out he is a spy and she is left to deliver an important package to some contact in Vienna- all the while being chased by bad guys and having no idea who to trust. So she takes off with her best friend Morgan (Kate McKinnon) and well, hijinks occur.
That include a hot possible new love interest:
That for some reason finds these two charming and wants to help them instead of hot messes who are getting in the way of potentially world-saving information.
The Spy Who Dumped Me was cute. It was surprisingly violent and had pretty good action sequences-
The funniest part however was when Audrey used a turn signal during a high-speed chase and my friends broke the don’t talk to me during a movie rule to go, “Oh my God!” “That would so be you!”
It would. It’s important to signal.
Kunis and McKinnon have good chemistry together and there’s some laughs. McKinnon could play this role in her sleep but I did like that she had a few nice quiet moments here and there. It’s pretty to look at and they actually go to Prague (a dream trip for me!) The actual spying/espionage elements are a big mess however. Gags with Morgan’s parents were cringe and so was the villain.
But again- strong female friendship bonus points. I loved seeing that!

Recommend: Yes but…Â It can totally wait for home-viewing.
I feel like a lot has already been written about Fallout. Ethan Hunts (Tom Cruise) latest mission to save the world from use of the plutonium that he technically lost. Along with Cruise and Cavil the usual suspects return including Rebecca Ferguson as Elsa. (Yeah!) And The Crown’s Vanessa Kirby as the most smiley arms dealer ever!
(Though there was a weird moment where her character just lays one on Ethan. It’s awkward and random and I just had to roll my eyes like… Why? Why have her kiss him at all?)
The performances here were all on point. The action (as so many have pointed out) it was so beautifully shot. It all looked very realistic. Especially the car chase in Paris very easy to follow as well as the fight in the bathroom. A small thing that I really liked at times Ethan looked like he was slowing down and having some troubles. I kept expecting someone to make a joke they were getting too old for this shit but they avoided that.
Still the idea that he’s not as on top of it as he used to be was a nice touch.
Also the villain returns from Rogue Nation- I don’t really care about the villain per say. Pretty standard but Sean Harris plays him well and something about him just creeps me out.
On the other hand I’m not sure I get the raptures over this one. It doesn’t really do anything different. I was a little confused on how one thing got figured out and honestly during the finale there were people in my theater laughing whenever something would happen and things would get worse for Ethan.
Kind of agreed with them. The finale at least felt like it was way to long.
I’d love it in movies if there’s a countdown in play to actually adhere to that countdown. Still if you’re going to see something in theaters it should be Fallout.
Recommend: Yes. If it’s your thing you’ll probably love it & if you’re just going along with someone else you’ll still have an enjoyable time!

A turn signal during a high speed chase is definitely a new development, I think, in the high speed chase thing. Especially if you put on your signal and then go the OTHER way. Embrace the chaos!
Prague though. Yeah I love when spy movies are set in Europe. The Bourne movies worked for me that way too.
Cruise is still making Mission: Impossible movies? I mean, I know he is but it kind of amazes me.
I didn’t even think about going the other way! But yeah obey the laws of traffic and fake them out 🙂
I really want to see The Spy Who Dumped Me. It’s looks pretty good. Although, I rarely go to the movies at the theater anymore so hopefully I’ll catch it when it comes on HBO or Netflix. I love Justin Theroux from when he was on The Leftovers (off topic LoL, but literally one of the best shows on TV in the last few years) and also Sam Heughan from Outlander.
I actually didn’t even know that they were still making Mission Impossible movies. I am so out of the movie scene, LoL. I saw the first one forever ago, but never any ones after that.
Rogue Nation totally pulled me back into Mission Impossible. Loved Elsa/ Rebecca Ferguson in that one.
For some reason every time I try to watch Outlander I don’t get the whole Jamie thing but I thought he was really adorable in this 🙂
I only kind of just liked Outlander until season three. Season three, at least for me, is where the show just reached that incredible level of being really good. Have far into the series did you get?
The first four episodes of season one 🙂 (And some random episodes here and there.) From what I know of the books I am interested in the upcoming season though!
I can’t wait to see The Spy Who Dumped Me! I absolutely love both of those ladies and although I know the movie won’t be a masterpiece, if it entertains me and gives me plenty of laughs that’s all I could ask for.

So if I ever watch TV it’s whatever thing my 2 year old is stuck on at that time when he isn’t giving me “tattoos” or playing outside. Lol.

Great reviews! I’ve been so on the fence re if I want to see The Spy Who Dumped Me. I knew it couldn’t be as good as Melissa McCarthy’s Spy. (That movie was hilarious. Hard to top.) But I love the cast of TSWDM. KM could read a phone book and make it funny. Then came…the rotten tomatoes rating…which can be really rotten sometimes and ruin all my excitement about a movie. Based on your review though, I think I’ll see it (when it’s out of theaters and on my TV screen, as you suggest). 🙂
This movie did totally make me want to rewatch Spy! (My favorite Jason Statham!) TSWDM is fun though 🙂 Would make for a great double feature.
