Book Recommendations: Summer Edition!

Book Recommendations Tag

This tag was originally created over on Youtube by Zarriah Rose & I have actually managed to do some seasonal recommendations for Winter and Spring. There’s a couple of good days left of summer (actually more but I’m of the once past Labor Day and back in school it’s officially over.)

Below are some fun recommendations for books I read this summer! But are good any old time of year.

Best Book:

That’s a tough one actually but I’m going to give a tie to:

Neverworld Wake & Sadie

With runners up and particularly good summer reads: The Cheerleaders by Kara Thomas and The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager.

Recommend an Old Favorite:

Okay, I’m cheating a little bit here because this summer is the first time I ever read it! But I know it’s an old favorite for many people and likely will be for be and that’s…

anne of green gables

Summer aside yes Anne it is wonderful to live in a world with Octobers!

Recommend a Non-Fiction

we should all be feminists

This is a pretty simple and easy book to read. I actually listened to this one and A Feminist Manifesto on audio book and I could listen to the author do audio for absolutely anything and it makes me very interested in reading her other work.

Recommend a Book to Help Escape:

This one is always a tough one because that’s what all stories do for me really but I read and loved

wild embers

The fairy tale poems were so much fun to read and the authors work overall was not only beautiful but I found it very healing and hopeful as well. Nikita Gill has another book coming out on September 11th called Fierce Fairytails and I immediately pre-ordered a copy upon finishing Wild Embers.

I’m also going to say for good escapism try The Crown on Netflix and though I recommended it last time Avatar The Last Airbender is also an excellent show to let all your cares drift away.

Happy End of Summer but I am so ready for Fall!!!!

  1. I think I follow Nikita Gill either on Twitter or Instagram but I haven’t read any of her books. Thanks for the rec, Wild Embers seems like it will be a great read.

  2. SAdie and The Cheerleaders are both on my TBR, hoping I can get to them soon, especially The Cheerleaders. And, um, I couldn’t help but notice- is that the dog from The Meg on your post header??!??

    1. Pippin! I noticed a trend this month of most of my entertainment characters making really bad choices and I still figure jumping into the wild ocean with a killer shark is high on the list! I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Sadie if you read it 🙂

  3. Great article! I’m always looking for new books to read (even though I have so many books I already own that I still have yet to read, LoL) so I always love new recommendations. On Season Two yet of the Crown?

    1. Soon 🙂 I was totally distracted by Sharp Objects and that’s kind of lingering in my mind right now and then I decided to give Killing Eve a try for Sandra Oh and I’m also totally enjoying that. I feel like I’m on a weird (for me) tv winning streak right now. But I want to get back to The Crown before Maniac drops!

      1. Yes, the Sharp Objects series was a great adaptation of the book. The ending though, I don’t know, it kind of had the feel of a cliffhanger. But I heard there are no plans for a season two.

Loved Killing Eve. So happy Sandra Oh got recognized for her work with a Emmy nomination, but what about Jodi Cromer? That was like the definition of an Emmy worthy performance!

      2. She’s definitely been great and supporting would have been well-deserved. I’m torn on this one between Sandra Oh and Claire Foy but I think I’d rather love to see Keri Russell finally get it for The Americans.

      3. Yeah, Jodie Cromer not getting a nomination just made no sense to me. That performance was just such a standout.

Yeah, Keri Russell getting the award would be great. Much well deserved!
