October Wrap-Up: Appropriate Amounts of Halloween Candy

the witch

One of these days I’m going to have the appropriate amount of candy for handing out on Halloween. I swear I half want to do some neighborhood census in September. Like do you have kids? Will you be trick-or-treating past my house? Does anybody ever nail the correct amount needed?

I hope everyone had a great Halloween!

Anyway we’re officially in November! Clocks change this weekend and it’s my favorite time of the year. Hoping my mood will improve with the time 🙂

I managed to get out of jury duty in the beginning of October so that was a bonus. It was close to. Literally last day of selections I was in a chair in the box thinking, “Please don’t pick me! Please don’t pick me!”

I’d actually be interested in serving on a jury at some point but this was a two month (at least) capital murder case and like I told the lawyers. I just don’t want that kind of responsibility. But onto what I watched, read and well, watched…

MOVIES

Yeah, basically it was A Star Is Born and old Venom…

Both were good in very different ways. I mean Venom was just fun- which I wouldn’t really describe A Star is Born as.

Yet there’s so many movies to look forward to this month; Nutcracker, Widows, The Grinch, Fantastic Beasts 2 and if they open anywhere in the vicinity of my house Green Book & The Favorite. I’ll likely be at the theater quiet a bit.

Books

I don’t really count this as a great reading month. Some interesting books and Muse of Nightmares was a 5 star read as expected.

muse of nightmares

The love stuff made me crazy but hey at least she doesn’t go as wild on that stuff as Maas.

I participated in Victober listening to-

cranford

Which is basically a nice little look into this small village life. I admit it took me probably half the book to get into but I ended up enjoying it and would recommend if, like me, you aren’t really into Victorian literature.

ghostly tales

Ghostly Tales Spine-Chilling Stories of the Victorian Age

They really liked their short stories and ghost stories so this one meshed nicely. I was genuinely creeped out by The Screaming Skull by Frances Marion Crawford. And thought  The Signalman (Charles Dickens) and The Old Nurse’s Story (Elizabeth Gaskell) were just good ghost stories.

Would recommend both books.

Television

Boy did television take up a lot of my time this month (thanks Netflix!) I’m still in the middle of a bunch of stuff because I fell down a certain vigilante/drama Queen hole…

I’m not a binge watcher (in fact I usually draw this stuff out or never finish) but I watched Daredevil Season 3 in four days. Four days! And quiet frankly I’ve rewatched most of the episodes and gone back to season one. It was that good! I’m trying not to start babbling about it yet until more people have watched it.

I also finished season 2 of The Crown which I will be babbling about…

I know they’re still filming season 3 but I’m hoping they get it out by next Spring. I think they’ll want to hit award eligibility so fingers crossed!

So that pretty much sums up October: not doing my civic duty, candy fail, crap mood, royals, parasitic alien in Tom Hardy, Bradley Cooper can sing, in love with everyone on Daredevil & ready for Aquaman!

I hope you all have a wonderful November ahead 🙂

  1. I enjoy watching the Crown as well. I’m currently hooked on Mad men – can totally understand your Daredevil binge as I’ve been sternly talking to myself about watching only a few episodes on mad men a day but always ended up watching many, many more… 😂😂😂

A Star is Born is everywhere right now and there are so many good things I’m hearing about it. I may break my nearly year long cinema sabbatical and go to see it. Glad to hear you enjoyed it!

And lol to Maas’ reference, I’m so with you on that one! 😂😂😂

    1. Now its just a matter of waiting for the next series of the Crown. Of course Daredevil might not even get one so I should be happy about the Crown being the sure thing.
A Star is Born is probably a good movie to end your break 🙂 If for no other reason the singing is excellent!

  2. I’m watching Daredevil too and although I’m getting a little sick of Wilson fisk, I’m enjoying it. The prison scene in episode 4 was quite the thing! Foggy/ Karen are always great. And we actually ran out of candy last night, but only because we didn’t buy enough? The last few years we hardly got any kids, then last night… here they come. and we had bought less candy. Typical…

  3. I love Fisk but he gets a run for his money 🙂
I had the opposite problem last year I didn’t have enough last night it was like an actual ghost town and I had a ton of candy! Worst part is I can’t actually eat it right now 🙁

  4. Great wrap up! I still need to start on Daredevil at some point, and I agree about Venom! I wasn’t blown away by it or anything, but it was a fun little movie. I hope you have a great November, love! ❤️

  5. I’m in the midst of Daredevil right now! I just wanna pet Matt––poor little dove. I’ve been using Superstore and The Good Place in between just to get breaks from the darkness. Fisk is such a great villain. Karen keeps annoying me though, and this season is so Karen-heavy. I miss Elektra. And Claire. *sigh*

    1. Matt is a walking disaster but he somehow makes it work 🙂 I think I’m the opposite though I like Karen and I like Elektra too- but neither one with Matt. Granted I’m not sure Matt is really capable of a relationship but thats a whole other story!
I still really want to watch The Good Place.

  6. I’m so excited to get to Muse of Nightmares! I’ve been hearing nothing but good things about it. Well, I have to start reading Strange the Dreamer first, but still. 😛 And gosh, I would never want to be chosen for jury duty. The sheer responsibility of it makes me want to turtle up.

    1. Both were excellent reads!
I think honestly saying I didn’t want that responsibility on my head especially concerning a possible death penalty phrase was probably what got me out of it but totally agree with you.

  7. Oh, well done on getting out of jury duty! I kinda hope i’ll never be in that sort of situation. In my native country we don’t have juries, but since i live in the UK, it’s been on my mind. I’m not a citizen yet, so i’m safe for now 😀

This clock change is the bane of my existence. It gets dark so early :/

    1. I love the clock change! But out in the desert I don’t really get Fall/Winter weather so this is my one thing to hold onto. Plus when its dark early I never feel bad saying nope going home to crawl into bed and read cause it’s already dark!

  8. Did you have too much or not enough Candy? I had almost 60 trick or treaters and I had bought 2 large bags of candy but I never opened the second bag.

I loved Venom! It was the only movie I watched in October 😀
