The Lies We Told

By: Camilla Way

Grade: A-

Clara seems to have the good life going on when he boyfriend Luke disappears. At first no one is overly worried about Luke until Clara discovers evidence he was being stalked. Further complicating matters Luke’s long missing sister shows up when she hears the news. She wants to help Clara- but she doesn’t want anyone to know.

And Clara’s left to deal with being left behind as well as discovering the secrets her boyfriend was hiding.

Welcome to family life. Seems like a good one for the holidays when you’re visiting the boyfriends family or you’re in-laws. What secrets are you hiding?

Clara’s POV was a good one. As she’s first thrown for a loop with no idea how to deal we discover the clues with her. There’s several nice mysteries within the larger mystery of what happened to Luke. What’s the deal with Emily? Why doesn’t she want anyone to know she’s alive?

Plus we have another unconnected story going on of a creepy little ‘bad seed’ girl. It’s hard to talk about mysteries because you don’t want to give anything away but I was surprised by how it all came together in the end.

And there was the interesting element of the boyfriend having the stalker being the ‘damsel’ in distress that they all have to attempt to rescue. The end left me definitely unsettled.

It does start off a little slow and you perhaps think the answers are maybe totally obvious but once it draws you in you’re pretty much going to be in for a nice quick read.

Recommend: Yes.
