The Lies We Told

Grade: A-
Clara seems to have the good life going on when he boyfriend Luke disappears. At first no one is overly worried about Luke until Clara discovers evidence he was being stalked. Further complicating matters Luke’s long missing sister shows up when she hears the news. She wants to help Clara- but she doesn’t want anyone to know.
And Clara’s left to deal with being left behind as well as discovering the secrets her boyfriend was hiding.
Welcome to family life. Seems like a good one for the holidays when you’re visiting the boyfriends family or you’re in-laws. What secrets are you hiding?
Clara’s POV was a good one. As she’s first thrown for a loop with no idea how to deal we discover the clues with her. There’s several nice mysteries within the larger mystery of what happened to Luke. What’s the deal with Emily? Why doesn’t she want anyone to know she’s alive?
Plus we have another unconnected story going on of a creepy little ‘bad seed’ girl. It’s hard to talk about mysteries because you don’t want to give anything away but I was surprised by how it all came together in the end.
And there was the interesting element of the boyfriend having the stalker being the ‘damsel’ in distress that they all have to attempt to rescue. The end left me definitely unsettled.
It does start off a little slow and you perhaps think the answers are maybe totally obvious but once it draws you in you’re pretty much going to be in for a nice quick read.
Recommend: Yes.
Yay, I’m happy you enjoyed this, too, Gemma! Terrific review!
Thanks!
This definitely sounds like a chilling little read, perfect for holiday time! And the “bad seed” girl haha always have to have that one iffy character. Sounds fun!
It’s proof positive that some kids you need to keep all sharp instruments and helpless animals and baby siblings away from 🙂
Ah, this sounds pretty intriguing! The mysterious sister’s appearance is never in a good sign 😀
I’m back from the dead really only goes two ways and they both tend to be extreme!
Ha ha, you never know what’s in people’s closets. It could be a fun mysterious holiday read indeed. 😊
It’ll definitely make you wonder what people are hiding!
hmm it’s interesting to have the boyfriend in that role. It does sound like a really well done, unsettling book. Great review!
Nice to have the boyfriend in distress for once instead of the damsel!
