At Least I Have Books: 2018 Wrap-Up

harley baking fail

December seemed to fly by. Along with all things Jason Momoa I’ve developed an unhealthy obsession with baking competitions. I’ve watched the adults and now I’m onto the kids baking shows. They’re so cute 🙂

Except there’s this 10 year old on one season that has a baking business. Like kid go outside and play or something stop making me look bad. At least I have my books!

I had a lovely holiday with my family but it always makes me sad when its over and everyone heads home and back to work. Back to the normal daily grind.

So happy thoughts!

goodreads wrap up

So I read 224 books last year! Which for me is a big aberration. But hey I was at like 178% on my Goodreads challenge which since I’m usually 60-70% on everything else in life I’m celebrating that!

most and least popular books

This is just in terms of number of reviews.

The Girl Who Took a Rocket to the Moon– is a book of short stories meant for children all about dealing with mental health and emotions. Which I think was very good and a great way to talk to your kids (even if the story about jealousy went right over my head.)

highest rated obsidio

This is the highest rated book I read on Goodreads which I’m sorry but that’s a little hard to fathom considering I also read Circe, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, Anne of Green Gables, etc.

No I actually checked Obsidio is rated higher than Pride and Prejudice. Not much higher but okay. I suppose Goodreads is a rant for another day 🙂

My average rating last year:

Screen Shot 2018-12-31 at 9.49.12 AM

Which sounds about right since in my head 3 stars is average and you build or subtract from there.

I did set a 2019 Goal of 54 books. It’s maybe low for me but than I can feel good about myself if I get to raise it.

The excellent Sophie at Portal in the Pages on Youtube made a 2019 spreadsheet that’s so impressive to my chart loving no real clue how to use Excel heart I’m going to give it a try this year.

Now its time to pack the decorations and start returning things to normal while I think about what I want to do this year (and also try not to think about some of the things I have to!) I hope everyone has a wonderful year 🙂

  1. I’m so happy to hear you had lovely time with your family over Christmas. It’s always sad when those times end and the reality of working hits us again, I can totally relate to that!

And lol to the GoodReads remark. I’m so with you with some of those ratings… 😉 And also I’m with you and those kids running their baking businesses …. 😂

Good luck with your 2019 challenge, sounds like a good goal. And well done to those 224 books, that’s trully impressive! 😊

    1. I don’t remember what I was doing at 10 reading and probably torturing my younger brother but I wouldn’t have even known what a business was! No less run one. Kids today 🙂

  2. 224 is awesome!! I’m off for the rest of this week and the half of next, so I have a bit more time before I have to return to the outside world lol. I watched Bird Box and a bunch of Nic Cage movies with my family during the holidays–Mandy and Mom and Dad–and loved both for vastly different reasons. (the nic cage movies, not bird box :P)

The happiest of new year to you, Gemma, and I hope 2019 treats you well! <3

    1. I watched a preview for that Mandy movie and thought no way but then I’ve heard nothing but good things. Might have to give it a try 🙂 Haven’t watched Bird Box yet.

Hope 2019 treats you well to and we get to read lots of wonderful books!

  3. 224! Amazing! <3 And not a bad overall rating for that many books 🙂

Baking competitions are addictive! I haven't seen one with kids, but i found a series on youtube where kids taste different foods from different countries. It's hilarious 😀

  4. Oh, wow, 224, that’s amazing! I didn’t count this year, but I think I’m close to 35-40 books, maybe? For me it’s good. Last year I read a lot of romance books, which were entertaining, but now I’m sick of them, so this year I want to expand my reading list and try new authors and genres, maybe even tackle a few of the classics I didn’t read so far

    1. I have the same problem. Too much of one genre and then it’s like no, get it away from me! I read some good classics this year to after ages! Enjoy whatever you read 🙂

  5. 224 books? Wow, congratulations! I feel like I’m going to faint at that number, that’s just shy of total books I’ve read in my entire lifetime. 😂 I would have been surprised with a rating higher than 3, I remember that you normally give out an average rating and rarely a 5. Out of curiosity, how many books did you rate 5*? Hope you get to achieve your reading goals for this year, I won’t be surprised if you surpass it! 🙂
