It’s Not Easy Making New Friends

A Simple Favor

Directed by: Paul Feig

Grade: A

Forming friendships as adults can be really difficult sometimes. Hard to connect with people life gets in the way of new relationships and so on and so forth. So that’s why it was nice to see Stephanie and Emily’s friendship form in last years A Simple Favor.

Well, not so much but still. I finally watched this after putting it off for ages and it was just as nuts and fun as everyone told me.

So below what to look for in a new adult friend or not to look for depending on how bored you are/how much you value your life.

Blake Lively was at her best in this film and not just fashion wise!

Great clothes/cool job

I mean honestly Emily’s amazing fashion sense would be enough to make anyone jealous but Stephanie’s mommy vlogger thing is a great friend benefit as well. She can tell you how to get stains out of those expensive clothes and cook you a great meal!

Plus success in both jobs leaves plenty of time for day drinking.

A hot but dumb significant other

Only one of you really needs this.

Have no boundaries

It’s a shockingly small step from sharing deep embarrassing secrets to moving in and essentially wearing someones life.

No I actually really enjoyed A Simple Favor and don’t want to give away too much. Both actresses are really well cast and do a great job. You can totally buy Blake Lively’s angelic/devilish side and Anna Kendrick makes Stephanie’s desperate loneliness and need to please work as well.

And when Emily does go missing I totally bought everything Stephanie does (even if I was shaking my head at her.)

There’s a Jean Smart cameo. The clothes are beautiful and I think my favorite moment was when Emily and Stephanie talk about whether they really are best friends like teenagers who just had a fight.

If I had to nitpick it would be Henry Golding. Pretty much thought he was the same here as he was in Crazy Rich Asians. Handsome. Charming. But the actresses had more chemistry with each other. It was a bit of a thankless role hopefully he gets some meatier stuff in the future.

Recommend: Yes. It’s a fun movie regardless but a great little mystery/thriller for a winter weekend at home!
