April Wrap-Up & May Plans

Taylor swift in me!

Spring is here and April was a very good month in entertainment. I watched my nephew for a week this month and despite predictions I did not sell him for books.

However I’m grateful we weren’t doing a swear jar or anything because even trying to watch myself I’d probably be broke.

Taylor released a new song…

Not sure I love the song. Though I’ll convince myself I do by the time we get the whole album. But I do love the video. Cool costumes, cats and generally the air of the nightmares I have when I’ve eaten too much sugar.

And then Holly Black announced we’re getting Queen of Nothing this year!

November 19th instead of January. I’ll take what I can get.

I did spend a lot of the month waiting for the IT Chapter 2 Trailer but in a shocking turn of events JJ pulled off getting me excited about Star Wars once again. I hope the hope doesn’t stab me in the back again.

I’m going to schedule this and my luck the IT trailer drops!

Films

This month was definitely dominated by all things Endgame the only other film I managed to see in theaters was Shazam! which I liked and I liked Levi I just don’t understand why he had to turn from kid to adult. I don’t know. It’s a hang-up for me.

I did like Netflix’s The Highwaymen in large part for Woody.

I finally watched Cold War over on Amazon Prime and was surprised by how good it was. It’s a story about a relationship but it just gets to the point and the main actors especially Joanna Kulig were so very good.

You know that old statement about how the camera just loves some actors- I can buy that here.

I also managed to watch the new Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase. Sophia Lillis was just as good as I thought she’d be unfortunately the movie wasn’t. I mean it’s not awful but it’s crazy forgettable save her.

Books

I read 11 books this month and I’m trying to break away from the constant drum of new releases and the just average books I’ve been reading recently. My favorite read this month is The Raven’s Tale but I also read and enjoyed Famous in a Small Town by Emma Mills. It’s not my favorite of hers but she’s consistently good.

I’m also planning on participating in the Asian Readathon hosted by Read With Cindy amongst others:

Honestly even if you can’t participate there’s a Google Doc attached to the video with a fantastic list of recommendations. So whatever I don’t read this month I can go back to at any time 🙂

I hope everyone has an amazing May!

  1. I hadn’t seen the new TayTay video 😂 It is … trippy? haha I do like the cats tho!

And I am so excited that we are getting The Queen of Nothing early!!!!

    1. She’s got a new one that’s adorable 🙂 Plus I think her one dress is like vomiting a river of glitter!

Totally wasn’t expecting that Queen of Nothing announcement but I’ll take it 🙂

  2. I liked Cold War, too, it looks amazing and I also really enjoyed the soundtrack.
The new Taylor song is too poppy for me. I feel there’s nothing special there 🙁
11 books? you’re on a roll, good for you

  3. Oh my gosh, I had no clue about Queen of Nothing being released this year! I’m stoked! After the cliffhanger from the Wicked King, I’m dying to see how the series ends! The cover is also gorgeous for it! 😉

I hope you have an awesome May! <3

    1. Best of all three covers 🙂

I’m dying to know if the ending goes happy, bittersweet or tragic! I think Cardan is giving tragic vibes though 🙁

  4. Ouhh nice, 11 books !
I wish you luck for this readathon, and I wish you an happy may of course ! xx

I haven’t yet listened to the song, but omg that unicorn and pouffy dress !! Also that cover is so very pretty.

  5. Hmm, i didn’t know this song until now, but i can confidently say i don’t like it 😀
Even though it sort of reminds me of some Gwen Stefani songs i used to like. I think my taste just changed. And that snake in the beginning!! That was terrible. :/

  6. I loved that you said you’ll convince yourself you like ME! by the time we get the whole album, because that is SUCH A MOOD. I didn’t like this single that much either, but I felt the same about every first single by Taylor since We’re Never Ever Getting Back Together. It didn’t stop me from loving the heck out of every album and knowing the lyrics to all the songs, so I’m confident that it will be the same for this era too. I trust her blindly like that, hahah.
Eleven books is impressive! I hope you have an amazing reading month in May too!

  7. The video for Me is good- though I feel like a failure of a Swiftie for not liking it. I’m so so excited we’re getting queen of nothing this year too!! I’m not gonna lie, I’ve given up hope for star wars- though the trailer does look good (and it’s better to have JJ behind the wheel again). Awesome wrap up!

    1. If he’s come up with a viable reason for the Emperor to be back, gives Finn something to do besides comic relief, doesn’t kill Lando and Chewy and gives me a few more nice shots of Oscar Isaacs butt like at the end of the trailer I’ll be happy. It’s a tall order but generally I’ve liked JJ’s stuff (not a fan of the original Star Trek so I feel like I always have to duck when I say that!)

  8. Welp. I think Suziey (or maybe you?) predicted that the new Nancy Drew would not be great and, yeah, well, that’s disappointing. I hope one day they can do justice for Nancy Drew fans. Perhaps a series one day.

And you read 11 books… how are you doing this. I read one book a month and for me it’s an achievement, a strong pat on the back.

    1. There actually is going to be a series in October! I haven’t heard much about it but I like Nancy Drew so I’ll give it a try and hope for the best 🙂
