I rewatched Jaws recently. I had been wanting to for a while but seeing as how its Shark Week I thought hey fortuitous timing!
Honestly the film still holds up. It has been awhile since I’ve seen it. Though Googling tells me I have a shockingly good hold on the shark and “other things that will kill you in the water” film genre.
But below my 3 favorite scenes in the film. This is spoiler territory…
I had completely forgot about the stunt these kids pull. Seriously I at least would have leveled the threat to use them as bait for the real thing- especially considering what happens next.
Little monsters.
I mean the get out of the water scene is famous of course but what I think makes it especially heartbreaking is that bit at the end where everything is kind of calm and the woman realizes her son is nowhere and then we just see his raft torn and bloody.
Rewatching that’s one of the things that jumped out at me. This movie knew how to use quiet and calm and not just in a oh, a jump scare is coming kind of way.
Which leads me to my favorite scene admittedly the most famous scene in the movie…
I loved his reaction here almost disbelief even though he knew why he was out there. I mean all reactions are valid when a murderous great white jumps out of the water I for one would probably vomit and pass out. But I’d do it quietly. So I related.
Unless it was a spider of any size. I’ve been known to scream bloody murder terrifying people at the sight of a spider. I’d likely chance it with the shark first. Nothing will compel me to rewatch Arachnophobia.
And was I the only one that felt a little bad for Jaws at the end?

I haven’t seen Jaws in AGES. I forgot about those kids too! Little shitheads lol. And that last scene- so classic. Roy Scheider was the bomb in this movie, honestly. 🙂
Aaaaannnnnddddd….No you have made me want to rewatch Jaws 😊😊 This is such a great film. It will simply never get old. I loved these scenes: especially the last one. Roy Scheider really made this film what it was, but of course his fellow actors as well. Loved his nostalgia filled post! 😊

Love this post! One of my favorite movies of all time. I recently watched all the Jaws movies on 4th of July since one of the channels was playing them non-stop and my local theater had a showing of Jaws last year so it was super fun to see the film at the movies. I love your top scenes.
Some of my favs are when they say a tiger shark and the random guy on the dock says “A whaaaat?” and pretty much any scene with Quint, especially when he tells that story about when his men were all taken by the sharks and when he talks about the cage going into the water and sings.

I like the bit in the ‘child hoax’ scene above, where the grown man tosses two kids off a raft and jumps on, paddling for shore. 🙂

I think I would have chosen the same scenes. Hubby still watches this movie every time it’s on.
I’m pretty sure i’ve seen this movie when i was a kid… or, it could be one of those movies that have been around since forever and are super famous and you’d know the scenes even without watching. Not sure. I’m sort of on a thriller/horror phase now so i may watch this again (or for the first time, who knows anymore) 😀

The first clip was unavailable, but that second one… whew. Jaws didn’t pull any punches clearly, went straight for the kids. 🙃 I’d love to see more films without the jump scare uses, can’t seem to think of other ones that don’t use it.
