Blogging Confessions: Tweet This Tweet That

harley is confused

Every now and again I tell myself I’m going to actually use Twitter correctly connect with people do all the stuff its there to do.

I open it. I retweet stuff. I like stuff but I’ve come to the conclusion that I have utter and complete Twitter Block.

Or would it be Tweet Block?

That doesn’t sound right… Tweet Blockage?

Which is very frustrating because in real life I can come up with plenty to say when I want to and I do want to. But I can’t manage a Tweet!

I’ve been very lucky in the people I follow and interact with but also maybe that’s part of the blockage?

They do it better. Oh, you know why smack myself over my head with this when I can just say hey read this person! Same information they nailed it 🙂 And quite frankly I’m still not sure I know how to correctly use Twitter to do cool stuff like long posts or anything like that.

I occasionally think oh I will post some meaningful quote but then I’d have to look some meaningful quote up and at this point they’ve probably all been posted and then someone would accuse you of stealing their quote from a year ago and it’s like…

“Ah, that’s actually a quote from Rumi.”

“But I tweeted it first!”

*Okay I’ve seen that happen on other sites but I’m assuming it happens on Twitter to.

Also honestly some of these so called “Unpopular opinions-” people like to start their Tweets with… aren’t really unpopular opinions at all but just random opinions that need a good hook so they call them unpopular.

Yes sometimes when I’m trying on Twitter the hardest thing not to Tweet is Seriously?

I saw one Tweet from a YouTuber that I like but don’t even follow canceling ALL male authors because one had used the word “panties.” Gasp! Maybe she was exaggerating as that seems to be a Twitter thing as well- but it didn’t sound like it.

I do enjoy people live-tweeting movies or shows but usually for things I’ve seen and I live in perpetual fear of unfortunately spoiling something for someone else and would probably Tweet so many spoiler warnings people would be annoyed!

The other thing that drives me crazy about Twitter?

I feel absolutely compelled to retweet or at the very least like every stinking animal picture I scroll past!

Yes I annoy myself sometimes. Story of my life 🙂

Also to be fair I’ve been told by so many people that know me in real that they don’t get my sense of humor and they can’t tell when I’m joking that I’m always trying to be careful of that even on the blog that it also probably contributes to my Twitter blockage.

But I have had a better experience on Twitter, even doing it half-heartedly, than I would have hoped when I original signed up. And the problems that I have had have been people who are such cliches I almost feel bad for them and that alone annoyed me.

It’s like a mini sci-fi world of its own at this point where everyone is a little avatar flying around visiting their friends from all corners of the world occasionally finding new strangers they want to play with and many times ones they want to avoid at all costs but generally making it work for them.

I’m still hopeful that one day I’ll figure out a way it works best for me and once that happens it’s on to Instagram!

  1. You’ve pretty much just summed up all of my thoughts about Twitter 😛 At the end of the day, it’s way less stressful to just semi-ignore it until someone directly interacts with you (at least that’s my method for dealing with it). Ignorance is bliss…Thanks for sharing 🙂

  2. I think you’re mostly overthinking it … which isn’t helping the block!

I personally dont post much on mine xd I do go on much more than I was, but I simply just scroll and retweet stuff – my posts shares automatically on it. Apart of that I reply to posts and sometimes i’d share books I’ve bought or ACNL screenshots so I can get them to my tumblr. Just, post whatever you wanna post and don’t think too too much about it! 😘

  3. I agree with Kristina; you’re definitely overthinking it. Just tweet whatever you want and follow whatever or whoever you want. Like any place, Twitter has a lot of annoying people and things, so just unfollow, mute, or ignore what doesn’t make your experience fun.
As for spoilers when livetweeting, if it’s something like a big Marvel movie, usually a month is enough time. It can be assumed that by then everyone who wants to see it has or doesn’t care or has muted the tag. For TV shows, perhaps be a bit vague, but again, big fans who really want to avoid spoilers will have muted the tag. I suggest threading livetweets so they stay together.

    1. I do tend to live for overthinking the little things 😉 And not thinking anything at all about the big important ones!

Good idea about the month time limit though.

  4. So true haha! I think Twitter is a work in progress for me. 🙂

I like Twitter but it can be hard sometimes to filter past the drama? Most of the bloggers I know though are pretty easygoing and that’s honestly why I go on there at all, really.

And I saw that tweet you referenced lol.

  5. A++ reaction picture usage!! <3 Haha and I like or retweet every animal picture too 😂😂 I don't usually post a ton on twitter because noone ever seems to see my tweets? If I get one like its amazing but not worth my time to write them if noone sees them. I am on twitter liking everyone else's stuff tho so I feel ya!

  6. I do not do Twitter well either so I don’t have many tips but “don’t overthink” seems like pretty good advice, though it clearly is possible to go too far the other way! If I ever do figure it out I will be sure to let you know.

  7. Are you on instagram? I’m on it, but I don’t do too well on it, because I want to just read my books instead of look at other people’s pictures of books 🙂

I enjoy twitter though, I learn about so much stuff going on. Perhaps my best advice is: don’t overthink it! haha

    1. I am on Instagram in the sense that I have an account… that has absolutely nothing on it for the past year because I keep telling myself I have to figure it out. I do like looking at other people’s pictures to though! More than taking them apparently 🙂

  8. Social media gives me so much anxiety. I don’t know why, but it causes me to overthink and feel overwhelmed by everything that’s out there. I understand where you’re coming from. For the most part, I’m learning to post and then log-off, and occasionally check notifications. I also mute a lot of uninteresting accounts too, which keeps my timeline clean. It’s hard to stay with it though! I hope you can find a way to use twitter so it’s not as complicated.

  9. Every time I see an ‘unpopular’ opinion tweet that isn’t actually an unpopular opinion, I internally defy myself from liking it. 😂

Live tweeting during Game of a Thrones and Love Island is one of the best things about twitter… actually, no, it’s the best because I feel like we all get together in one digital space and have a laugh. Quite literally a digital get-together.

  10. Oh my goodness YES every time I see “unpopular opinion” I end up rolling my eyes, cos it’s usually not an unpopular opinion (and even if it’s not the typical opinion, it’s not something all that controversial). And gosh it’s so hard to hold it in the number of times I see people trying to cancel people for the dumbest things (and sometimes they actually get a lot of traction- the most recent one I saw was someone trying to cancel a group of booktubers running an anti-cancel culture readathon… I couldn’t believe how much support it got!!) I haven’t figured out twitter yet to be honest and its been years- I’m not sure I ever will 😉 Maybe I’ll have better luck with Instagram 😉

    1. Oh I am totally interested in an anti-cancel culture readathon 🙂

I sometimes think people starting with unpopular opinions just need to tweet something but don’t want it to seem too random so they preface it with that. But twitter is just so odd anyway!
