Why is sex in romance books, at least between our star-crossed lovers, always so damned perfect?

Okay maybe that’s not the right word nor can you say that about all books- I certainly haven’t read them all but just once I want to read one where the main couple finally get together have sex and then think hm, we’ll that just wasn’t good at all.

I suppose that would be anti-climatic.

First of all I do want to say I did like Well Met a cute little story about a girl working a Renaissance Fair for the summer who meets a sexy pirate/annoying English teacher and finds her place in the world.

A book store is included.

Sex Scene Spoilers!

Anyway welcome to chapter 16 where our couple have the best sex ever! Because that’s what people in books do.

First of all:

How do characters even survive this?

I mean Emily mentions something about not being able to breath at least seven times! Including fighting for breath and ‘breathing being something that happened to other people…’

Oh and the kisses turned electric. So between that and the problems breathing I’m stunned she didn’t start like hyperventilating mid-act which actually would have been fairly amusing.

She’s also driven to ‘the brink of insanity,’ at one point.

Are these romance/sex tropes?

The scene is interrupted for her insecurity which naturally leads to him threatening her shitty ex. Because obviously this partner is better than everyone who came before and that leads into the second one I see all the time (and admittedly not just in romance)

The guy hasn’t been with anyone else in ages.

Emily’s so happy he has a condom, “I like a man who’s prepared…”

But naturally:

“Not even close. You have no idea how relieved I was that I had one in there. It’s been a while.”

“Yeah?” The thought warmed me…

Because not only is he better than everyone else he’s been lonely and waiting just for you.

Oh I also always hate the surprise, “You still have clothes on!”

Well yeah, clothes don’t magically remove themselves!

Those awkward moments:

I think my favorite part (and I do mean this) of the whole chapter is when he blurted out that the kitchen counter was nice because he had it put in last year and was still paying it off on his credit card.

I laughed out loud but hey at least it’s an opening to honestly talk about one’s credit card debts before they commit right?

Even if some of the fluffy romance stuff goes over my head I did actually like Well Met. It made me want to go to a Renaissance Fair- although I like my pirates more Black Sails deadly than adorable. It’s a cute book a fast read if your busy and I did like the sisters growing bond especially but don’t expect much more- especially in the relationship department.
