Tuesday Mooney Talks to Ghosts

I just want to say should any dying rich multi-millionaires want to put a fortune on the line in a city wide treasure hunt… Nows the time please 🙂
Count me in. I would definitely play that game!
I just don’t think anyone would play fair. But that’s a whole other story.
Tuesday Mooney is fairly happy in her life. She has one good friend (and that’s enough for her) she loves her job as a researcher and she’s put her past complete with missing friend and ghost talking days behind her. Until a mysterious Edgar Allen Poe loving rich dude drops dead at a hospital benefit and in clues placed before he died leads a city wide scavenger hunt from beyond.
Tuesday’s got the research skills to find the clues with help from her friend Dex who gave up his performing dreams to go into finance and is regretting it and her young neighbor whose hoping that the prize will be the ability to see her departed mother.
Tuesday’s path also crosses with the secretive and possibly dangerous rich neighbors of the dearly departed as well as the widow who may know more than she’s letting on.
Overall Tuesday Mooney was a lot of fun and you get a lot of depth to the three characters I mentioned. I did like that there was (mostly) a measure of hope and fair play to the game.
Two standouts to me where Tuesday and Dex’s friendship which honestly starts as two people who don’t have anyone else generally bearing with each other to actually learning to talk and confide in each other like friends which is hard as an adult and also Tuesday taking responsibility and accepting consequences after using her job for something off book.
In a way it’s unfair but at the same time isn’t which is so much of life and I just really appreciated that part in there. It made a story that got progressively more out there feel more real at the same time.
But then if there are problems with Tuesday Mooney there’s a lot going on in this one and with the characters and some of it works, some of it doesn’t. (I deeply dislike the relationship in this book but that’s mondo spoiler territory!) Everything does come together and I felt like it worked but like it worked by a thread you know? Like one cut and the whole story would fall apart.
Still it was a fun read and a nice little surprise of a book for something that I picked up solely based on the title alone!
Recommend: Yes.

I can just imagine that this would make a great film for spring, and I’m totally with you that a millionaire creating a treasure hunt before dying would be a LOT of fun. But it might be nice to be given all the money through a will than having to put in a lot of chocolate factory effort.
