Things I Learned in Lockdown

It is not just “lots of free times,” that I needed to finish a writing a novel.

I bombed first grade math.

In fact I’m not entirely sure I’d pass first grade now period.

Nephew: What am I supposed to do?

Me: Ah, I… well, this could mean different things depending on what your teacher wants you know what just ask Google!

Brother: No! That is not what he needs to do!

Good quality paper towels are more important than nice soft toilet paper. At least when you have a sick cat 🙁

Too many pictures of Oscar Issac makes me want to watch and read romances…

I’m okay with it though 🙂

Too much Brooklyn 99 has led to a crush on Andy Samberg and Andre Braugher… and Stephanie Beatriz…

Food ordered out has never tasted so good as after a month + of cooking your own food and increasingly winging it in the pantry because trips to the grocery store are so anxiety inducing!

If I see one more commercial about how we’re all in this together (now why don’t you buy a new car) my foot is going to wind up inside my television.

Some Good News always makes me cry happy tears. In fact I fully expect every time I see John Krasinski now I’m just going to automatically tear up no matter what he’s doing.

If you tell me I can’t go someplace I will never want to go anyplace more than the place I can’t go!

Harley Quinn

So those are some of the things I learned about myself these past couple of months (feels like years) as the world changes. I hope everyone is staying safe! Have a lovely weekend!

  1. I am also completely hating the COVID commercials. It’s like, wow, way to make even a pandemic into capitalistic greed! Hit me up if you or your nephew need math help. Elementary math teacher for four years!

  2. Preach! Those “we’re all in this together” ads are well-meaning but oh so tone-deaf. They’re freakin’ everywhere and it’s causing me to unravel to the tune of High School Musical 🙃

  3. Totally agree with all these things. The one thing I am missing the most during this time is outside food. In my country, one food delivery boy contracted coronavirus and all the family who he delivered to got quarantined… so we are not ordering anything from outside… but really missing outside food. Cant wait for all this to get over!!!!!

  4. I have learned that I am bizarrely suited to lockdown.
I have had none of these problems, although to be fair I haven’t really been trying with the math, just a little zoom french with my nephew. And okay, I do share an Oscar Isaac fixation and the same with Brooklyn 99.
I don’t watch TV and I haven’t seen the John Krasinski, though I think I maybe should.
I haven’t ordered in or taken out, and since I’m not working I have energy to cook, and my food is always better than those kinds of places anyway.

  5. How did you fail first grade math? It’s just 1 + 1! 😂 I saw a video recently where a poor kid couldn’t answer 1 + 1 which his older brother was tutoring him. The poor boy was in tears, and the older brother was growing angrier and angrier because at one point his answer was 17. Okay, I don’t know where I’m going with this. But… it’s 1 + 1. Lol!

I still order takeout once a month just as a treat.

The one thing I’ve learned is that I really do need human contact. Not all the time but at least two prolonged sessions a week with friends/family.

    1. I think I’m just way to literal where school was concerned and distance learning is a bit odd on top of that. I was staring at his stuff thinking well, it’s probably this but maybe she means you to do it this way?
