Witches Rule Discworld

Luggage, Luggage, where are you?

Okay I won’t whine about my favorite sentient baggage being absent because these days are the perfect days for Discworld and this is one of my favorites so far!

Although this one does have an ancient, lazy, occasionally vicious cat whose got its owner completely bamboozled to his crazy side which also makes me super happy. So benefits!

We rejoin Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg and Magrat who sort of accidentally becomes a fairy Godmother and they must travel to Genua to save Princess Emberella from her other power-hungry fairy Godmother.

Who really, really needs Emberella to kiss this creepy Prince.

It’s basically fairy tales gone mad Discworld style and I must say I totally enjoyed it. We did meet these characters in a prior book (Wyrd Sisters & Equal Rites for Granny) and while that might help I actually still think you can come into this one cold. Actually I liked the characters and the story far more in this book and can see why they become so popular.

Actually when they get to the fairy tale stuck town of Genua that’s brilliantly drawn to and I was asking myself why isn’t Discworld picked up for a series when the news came out that a large scale adaptation could be forthcoming. But we are definitely getting a series of The Watch which was another one of my favorite fun Discworld novels.

I have to admit from the scant pictures I’ve seen it looks a little grittier than I would have thought but I’m still totally in. Of all the cinematic worlds being built Discworld should be the most fun!

(Fingers crossed!)

And as for my Discworld journey 12 books down 29 to go 🙂

Recommend: Yes.

It’s got witches, fairy tales and a cool cat. What more could you want?
