Bill & Ted Successfully Return

Bill and Ted: Face the Music

Directed By: Dean Perisot

I expect certain things from a Bill and Ted movie but I must admit I did not expect to honestly tear up a bit at the end. It’s a sweet film with a nice message and it’s been an awful year… who can blame me?

Anyway we rejoin our lovable losers (Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter) nearly 30 years after the last in which time they haven’t managed to write the song to save humanity and now they find out if they don’t do it and play it in a little over an hour time and space are going to collapse.

Naturally they decide to journey to the future to steal it from themselves and their daughters Samara Weaving and Brigette Lundy-Paine head to the past to put together a band to play it.

Downsides: the film is a little awkward at times (but at this point it might just be the characters) and the daughters (while good) are little more characters than mini Bill and Ted’s.

Though I did appreciate seeing father daughter relationships that were unabashedly sweet and supportive. They didn’t hate them for essentially being failures. They believed whole-heartedly in the idea and always supported them and that was a nice touch.

Nice little bonuses: the nod to George Carlin/Rufus was well done and Barry scene stealer Anthony Carrigan is a great addition as well.

(I miss Barry! I don’t think they even filmed season 3 before Covid started! So get your Hank fix here folks.)

I also think not surprisingly the effects were better than the last two films. Although I missed Keanu’s beard. I always miss Keanu’s beard though!

Bill and Ted: Face the Music is a sweet little film that’s not perfect but it’s a lot of fun. It’s currently out in theaters but if you can’t go or don’t want to risk it it’s also on PVOD to rent or buy.

Recommend: Yes.

It’s more than worth a watch!

  1. Well…that just sounds: Excellent! Glad the movie is enjoyable. Always a little bit worried when they return to a beloved franchise so many years after the last film, but glad it’s a welcome return😊

  2. It’s very rare for a sequel with this many years in between installments to be a hit with both critics and fans, so I may end up checking this one out. Then again, the trailers for the film did look good; there are more good trailers than there are good films, so it’s great that there’s a correlative relation between the two this time.

  3. I wasn’t sure how it would turn out but it did not disappoint. It is just so much fun and I was very happy to be able to see it right away on VOD!

  4. I like the beard and I like his hair shorter (though maybe not for this movie). I watched all 3 John Wick movies this weekend and kept thinking about how I wish he had the beard and shorter hair. ❤️
