5 Star Film Predictions for 2021

I’ve always shied away from this with books for fear I’d be pressing my luck but looking at the list of 2021 movie releases (probably 2021 anyway who knows?) I saw a few that I have hope could be 5-Star Predictions that take me by real surprise.

So fingers crossed.

Gunpowder Milkshake (2021)

I don’t know a vast amount about this one besides assassins and two of my favs (Karen Gillan and Lena Headey) playing mother and daughter. I have great hope that this one will turn out.

Dune

Dune (October 1, 2021)

You’re probably thinking isn’t this one of your most anticipated films? Yes. But a hot cast and a good book does not make a five star film. Especially since (blasphemy) I was not big on the directors previous 2 films.

Pacing is a slow thing for him.

Dune’s source material could either help him or kill him here. Plus it’s split in two so it still has some pretty big worries. Yet I do think Denis Villeneuve could knock this out of the park. Plus Chalamet has been growing on me lately.

Army of the Dead (2021)

Zack Snyder seems like such a nice cool guy I always feel bad that I don’t like his movies.

But Army of the Dead has some of my favorite things- zombies, a heist and Las Vegas. Plus the cast looks like they’re having fun (I find that helps) and it’s on Netflix so benefit.

I actually think this could be a 5-Star Snyder movie. Actually I see myself giving this 5 stars before Justice League.

Speaking of directors that I don’t really get along with there’s Edgar Wright’s new film :

Last Night in Soho (April 23, 2021)

Anya and Matt Smith in one film! That’s being described as a psychological horror and I’ve heard rumors of elements of time travel. I’m going into this one kind of blind with deep, deep hope that it’s not like Baby Driver in anyway shape or form.

From what I’ve seen so far this could easily be a five star for me!

Lastly there’s The Princess Switch 3.

Just kidding but I knew another one was coming! Let this be the Halloween horror one we’re all hoping for.

Raya and the Last Dragon (March 5th)

The animation looks gorgeous Raya looks like a bad ass. There’s at least one cute critter and a dragon! And while I consider myself burned from the previous Disney+ premiere access it will likely be on PVOD after a month anyway.

Not that I ever actually learn my lesson where books or films are concerned but at least we know for sure where getting Raya this year 🙂

So hopefully I’m not jinxing them but these are the films I think could be 5 Star Surprises for me in 2021!

*I’d take any listed release date (especially Dune) with a grain of salt.

  1. I’m looking forward to Dune. I’ve always wanted to love this story, but I could never get into the book, and the adaptations I’ve seen left me either confused or disappointed. Hoping for more with this one.

  2. Dune is on the very top of my want to watch list. I was looking forward to it last year, before it was delayed, I even listened to the audiobook – lol. Now I have to wait some more – sigh.
