The Mitchells Vs The Machines

I have to start paying more attention to Sony Animation because they have been on top of things recently. Because while I’m no animation expert I really enjoyed the styles throughout The Mitchell’s vs the Machines.

It was as fun to watch for that as anything else.

The movie itself is about a troubled father/daughter relationship and a family road trip to drop the daughter off at film school…

Which not going to lie her home movies (especially with the dog) and the film school angle was able to add a fun element on it’s own even if the family stuff was a little eh whatever in the beginning.

The Mitchell’s promptly find themselves in the middle of the robot apocalypse. Which be nice to your electronic friends people it might help at the end of the world…

Also dogs 🙂

So there were some cute moments and gags. The voice cast was fine for the most part… but also it has Olivia Coleman and Maya Rudolph so they alone can cover the iffier ones easily enough. It’s also got some fun gags- a couple of which were given away in the trailer but I’ll avoid them here regardless.

So overall the family stuff might on basis be a bit stale but the animation and presentation was fun and elaborate and honestly made it worth a watch on that alone. The Mitchells vs. The Machines is on Netflix now.

Recommend: Yes.

  1. This may be my favorite movie I’ve seen all year. It was hilarious! I don’t think I’ve laughed that hard at a movie in a long time. I appreciated the internet humor, movie appreciation, and I thought the family stuff was sweet. The Mitchell’s vs. the Machines was awesome in my opinion.

  2. So glad you enjoyed this one! I’ve been waiting for it for SO long now and it was every bit as good as I hoped! That Furby scene absolutely killed me. I would have loved to have been in the cinema for that.
