Comic-Con Wrap-Up: Marvel News

the musical avengers

I have so many thoughts on the Comic-Con Marvel news I’m doing two posts. A comic-con wrap up Marvel & than one for everything else! On the Marvel front part of me thinks its still too much stuff and another part of me is happy enough about the big stuff that I’m willing to put up with the appetizers.

If that makes any sense…

It’s Monday you know?

The Amazing

Lupita Nyong'o as Nakia

The Wakanda Forever teaser is first rate!

Amazing use of music. Angela Bassett is the Queen! Namor/Atlantis looks better than I thought they would… Just aces all the way around. Plus it has Winston Duke so 😉

The teaser manages somehow to achieve both memorial and remembrance and celebration.

As to the big question- whose the new Black Panther?

I know everyone thinks it’s going to be Shuri. But I’m putting money on Nakia or Kilmonger being alive still but I’m thinking Nakia.

The Good Idea or Bad Idea?

Daredevil Born Again

I’m not overly happy with what they did with Kingpin in Hawkeye but always willing to see where it goes. However I just don’t know about this Born Again announcement. If they are talking about the comic (and not like hey Daredevil is born again on Disney+) it’s about as dark as you can get.

Also they hit a lot of those beats in season 3 of Daredevil and…

Content aside nothing on Disney+ so far (or the writers for that matter) have made me think they can hit those highs. To be fair season 3 of Daredevil I feel is still some of the best genre content of all time in my opinion.

So I will hope but worry.

Two Avenger Movies

Paul Rudd

Well we have been saying where are the Avenger’s Feige?

Two movies are coming in 2025 plenty of time for speculation about whose going to make up the teams. The first one is Avengers The Kang Dynasty. I know little about Kang but I’m imagining like forty Jonathan Majors running around so I’m happy 🙂

The second one is Secrets Wars which should be a lot of fun! But so far away from now and with no promise of multiple Majors I can’t really get excited for it!

Speaking of Secret Invasion

Secret Invasion

I know some footage was played in Hall H and it promises to be very good. It’s definitely the cast I’m most excited for…

But it seems like it’s just going to be a show which short changes secret invasion a lot. Although I must say almost nothing was said about The Marvels compared to the other films coming out next year. So maybe those two will be wrapped together. Secret Invasion could very well lead into The Marvels.

She Hulk

Tatiana Maslany as She Hulk

We also got a new, and probably final, She Hulk trailer.

And look suspension of disbelief/ the breaking point is different for everyone. If the CGI isn’t bothering you… cool. For me the most bothersome part is that some shoots she looks fine and others it’s just too off.

Plus why make her better at everything than the Hulk? I mean sure agile and yoga that makes sense considering forms. But really we’re going with stronger now to? Hulk just doesn’t get any respect.

I love Maslany whose one of the best actresses around, seriously watch Orphan Black if you never have, so I’ll give it a shot just for that but this one definitely remains the most iffy for me.

And that’s pretty much sums up the comic-con Marvel related news! Though hopefully they release the Guardians trailer soon because I’ve heard really good things. No Fantastic Four cast announcement but I think that will be D23 at the end of August so plenty of time to speculate.

  1. The Wakanda Forever teaser was one of the best teasers in the MCU. I’m hopeful even though I’m still strongly against not recasting T’Challa. Daredevil: Born Again should be interesting. I am pretty sure the title is just referring to the character returning on Disney+, not the storyline. As for She-Hulk, I absolutely love everything I’m seeing. No complaints from me, it’s like the character lept on the comic pages.

    1. Yeah I think T’Challa should have been recast though I can see how they made the decision so soon after his death no one really wanted that and then time of course and less emotional heads perhaps.

I hope I wind up enjoying She-Hulk I mean I’ll freely admit that I didn’t think I would like Ms. Marvel based on those trailers.

  2. I’m concerned about ‘Daredevil: Born Again,’ too. Like you said, they already did much of it in ‘Daredevil’ S3 and it feels like they are just trying to be splashy with the first Disney+ Daredevil show. Like, if someone knows nothing else about Daredevil as a character other than he exists, that’s the title/story they are most likely familiar with. And it only works because of the build-up and payoff. To use “Born Again” to introduce the Disney+ version of Daredevil to the MCU *could* work. It could also be like the 4,000 times Fox tried to do “Dark Phoenix” without first doing “The Phoenix Saga” (ok, ok…so it only FEELS like 4,000 times) and undercut the emotional payoff because they didn’t set it up. Only time will tell!

I think ‘She-Hulk’ is the one I’m most excited for! Weirdly (or maybe expectedly?), it has little to do with the trailers. I just always loved She-Hulk as a kid because, while I read ‘The Incredible Hulk’ all the time, I was always so sad at how everyone treated the Hulk! But with She-Hulk she had control of her powers. She was part of the Fantastic Four! She was an Avenger! She was a lawyer! And everyone didn’t hate her and pick on her all the time and seeing that happen to the Hulk always made me sad :/. So I don’t know how the show will work but my childhood love of Jen Walters has me pumped!

    1. I’m not familiar with She-Hulk but honestly you probably sell it better than the trailers so far 🙂

I am familiar with Maslany and think she’s just fantastic. One of the best actors working in Hollywood today so I fully hope this means she’ll continue to show up in FF and Avengers.

I’m just concerned about Daredevil on Disney+ all around. I wasn’t big on what they did with Kingpin in Hawkeye and while I know that Matt Murdock was involved at times intricately with She-Hulk and Spiderman stuff the fact that they are leaning so hard into comedy (and his Spiderman cameo was so short its hard to say) it’s just one of those things were the series was so good that great as they were I don’t know if it’s going to be worth using the original actors if they are about to do a tone shift. I don’t know. I know I should wait and see. But patience has never been a strong point!

      1. Yep, I’m with you there XD. And I share all of those fears! Also, I think in our internet/social media age that sort of patience is harder to find. Like, we know everything they are developing and we are bombarded with announcements about developments every step of the way so that anxiety is always being stoked. It’s hard not to think about it! So that naturally means its easier to worry about it, too.

It’s not like when I was a kid and I realized ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: Secret of the Ooze’ was happening because I saw the trailer on TV XD.

  3. Soooo excited for Wakanda Forever!! Angela Bassett IS queen indeed, she looks phenomenal and so regal. Glad it’s actually coming later this year.

    1. I know! I kind of don’t mind them leaving trailers until closer to the movie makes it feel like less time to wait 🙂
