Binary Star

So I’ve been reading a lot lately about authors versus reviewers and how they want book reviews especially on blogs to go down. I for one don’t give a lot of one star reviews even […]

My television watching habits these days are not very good. I don’t watch a lot live and even then few things manage to keep my attention. I’ll binge watch something but by the time I get around to it I usually feel like I’m playing catch-up. That’s one of the many reasons I’m absolutely loving these winter run shows on ABC. I didn’t expect to like one of them and I thought the other would just be okay but really both are fun, entertaining and lively shows.

ANTIGODDESS

Yes, I do wonder what it says about me that in a book about dying Gods and reincarnated heroes the scene that most stood out and annoyed me was when the two otherwise smart girls […]

Big Little Lies

Someone died at the Elvis and Audrey school trivia night. They were murdered. The book tells the story of the major players in the year leading up to that event with little funny tidbits of […]

I’ve been catching up with my movies thanks to some well-timed Christmas gift certificates & these were two I really, really wanted to see in the theatres but just didn’t get around to. So available on ITUNES? Sign me up! I really have no patience to wait for rentals either. I really should work on that. Both these movies play into my kick recently of wanting really strong female characters though I’m not sure there the right kind of strong female characters.

I have to stop discriminating against YA Novels because even though I read a lot of them and enjoy them there’s a little part of me that’s always thinking: You should be reading a grown-up book. You are not a young adult anymore. But age is a number (so shut-up mind!) and a great story is a great story. Below are three of the great YA books I read last year and while the stories are fairly different they have strong female characters in common and I really believe that plays a part.

Best Times with Books Part One

I am a sucker for a book list. Books I read. Books I want to read. Books that are going to be movies or television shows that I have to read. Usually I forget a lot of the books I read that didn’t make any kind of impact. However there were some I read this year that really stood out for various reasons. They may not all be books released this year and they may have some problems but reading is akin to going to the movies for me- I see it in my head. So here are some of the best times I’ve had with books this year and the reasons why:

The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies

thehobbitthebattleofthefive-ps-10I keep wanting to call this Return of the King which it’s not it’s Battle of the Five Armies the final movie in the Hobbit trilogy which I drove two and a half hours to see with my friend earlier this week. For me I thought it was the best of the Hobbit movies even though it had problems that stood out more to me. I had more of an emotional reaction to it if that makes any sense.

On a rating scale 6/10 and the good, the bad and things I’m still trying to figure out…
