I have to stop discriminating against YA Novels because even though I read a lot of them and enjoy them there’s a little part of me that’s always thinking: You should be reading a grown-up book. You are not a young adult anymore. But age is a number (so shut-up mind!) and a great story is a great story. Below are three of the great YA books I read last year and while the stories are fairly different they have strong female characters in common and I really believe that plays a part.

Best Times with Books Part One

I am a sucker for a book list. Books I read. Books I want to read. Books that are going to be movies or television shows that I have to read. Usually I forget a lot of the books I read that didn’t make any kind of impact. However there were some I read this year that really stood out for various reasons. They may not all be books released this year and they may have some problems but reading is akin to going to the movies for me- I see it in my head. So here are some of the best times I’ve had with books this year and the reasons why:

The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies

thehobbitthebattleofthefive-ps-10I keep wanting to call this Return of the King which it’s not it’s Battle of the Five Armies the final movie in the Hobbit trilogy which I drove two and a half hours to see with my friend earlier this week. For me I thought it was the best of the Hobbit movies even though it had problems that stood out more to me. I had more of an emotional reaction to it if that makes any sense.

On a rating scale 6/10 and the good, the bad and things I’m still trying to figure out…

Not That Kind of Girl

I have to admit I had a bias going into this. Nothing against Lena Dunham personally or even necessarily because of something she did. I just don’t relate to Girls. It also drives me crazy when the media […]

Cress is the third book in Marissa Meyer’s Lunar Chronicles. I was planning to put off reading it until closer to book number four’s release but it was a dirt cheap deal on Amazon on […]

Winterspell

Once again the evil Queen is the best part of a story. Clara is investigating the death of her mother. She’s trying to keep her drunk father safe from the crime syndicate he’s been a […]
