All the Best Deaths

All the Best of the Deaths

Okay, this is a bit morbid perhaps but I was thinking of it in regards to Strange the Dreamer and we’re so close to Halloween so All the Best of the Deaths. By the way this isn’t a good or bad thing some of these absolutely devastated me but they were so well done!

Also there’s some pretty famous deaths in here but just in case spoilers for: The Book Thief, Crooked Kingdom, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Mockingjay, Strange the Dreamer, & The Hate U Give.

2016 Favorites

I wanted to do a wrap up of my favorite books, movies, and television in 2016 but this week has been a rough one. So I decided to keep it super simple.

TELEVISION

Screen Shot 2016-08-29 at 10.49.25 AM

I was completely hooked on this one after the ending of the third episode. This may actually be the fastest I’ve ever watched a series, even for Netflix.

I also enjoyed Daredevil Season 2 this year (but mainly for the Punisher and Jon Bernthal) and I am quite obsessed with Westworld.

I think what edged out Westworld was being on-line too much and hearing some of the theories and seeing too much stuff whereas I went into Stranger Things completely blind and managed to stay that way.

*I really need to try that more because I’ve definitely found I enjoy things unspoiled.

MOVIES

My favorite movie this year was easy to pick:

screen-shot-2016-12-21-at-2-22-52-pm

It was definitely The Nice Guys. I ship Jackson and Holland. I love Holly. And it’s really weird for me to rewatch movies, even ones that I enjoyed, right away but I swear I’ve rewatched this one four or five times already and it still makes me laugh. I really wish this had done better because I would have loved a sequel.

Other favorites include Rogue One, Deadpool and The Shallows.

BOOKS

Oh, man when I thought about my favorites for books, television and movies I went for the ones that have stayed with me throughout the year. The ones I could pull right from the top of my head. Ones that I haven’t really been able to nitpick more as the year went on and there…

Weren’t very many of those in terms of books.

Crooked Kingdom was one of my most awaited books this year and it didn’t disappoint. I hate the fact that it’s the end of this series but I thought it ended very well (except for the parts that made me cry). These days when I get through series, even if I enjoy them, I have this feeling of, “I’m glad it’s over. Now I can move on.”

With Crooked Kingdom (and Six of Crows) I felt like I would easily, happily continue to follow these memorable characters. Which is how all great stories should end right? Always leave them wanting more, as they say. It probably helped that I had only read Six of Crows at the beginning of the year so I really didn’t have to wait that long for the end.

Runner-up to Trick

26594092

I don’t think this was actually published this year but I read it in 2016 so I’m included it. I stumbled upon it almost accidentally but really enjoyed this love story between a court fool and a Princess in that it also dealt with things such as disabilities, discrimination, mental health and despite being a fantastic setting actually felt very real in it’s story and consequences.

I would love to see Trick and The Six of Crows series come to the screen!

Well, I am fairly ready to say farewell to 2016! Hopefully 2017 will be a good one for all!

Crooked Kingdom

Author: Leigh Bardugo

Grade: A

Just a warning since this is the second book in the series there’s going to be spoilers for Six of Crows (book one). I try to stay away from spoilers for this one but if you haven’t read Six of Crows- and you should- you’ve been warned…

September: Scream Queens, Crooked Kingdom & Miss Peregrine

So September is the start of pretty much my favorite time of year and it’s also the start of a long list of (hopefully) great books and movies to come! On the television front there’s the return of:

Screen Shot 2016-08-31 at 9.47.48 AM

Scream Queens Back to the madness! I can’t even explain this show but season one, despite all it’s many flaws, was entertaining as hell. I loved the Chanel’s. Great fashion. Great one liners. I’m hoping season two will at least be as fun.

Movie wise my big ones are:

Screen Shot 2016-08-31 at 9.53.20 AM

The Light Between Oceans on September 2nd. I think I’m most looking forward to what Alicia Vikander does with Isabel, who was a book character that really stayed with me.

The Magnificent Seven on September 23rd

Screen Shot 2016-08-31 at 9.54.28 AM

I’m not overly big on Westerns but this looks like it could be fun to me. Fantastic cast. And it looks beautiful. Especially Chris Pratt. 🙂

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children on September 30th

I liked this book (but didn’t really love it) yet it also has Eva Green starring and Tim Burton directing. The trailer looks lovely and the music caught my attention. I’m thinking this might be one I wind up liking the book better because of the  movie.

Book wise I might have mentioned this one a couple million times:

Crooked Kingdom finally comes out on September 27th

I don’t think I’m prepared for this one and I’m hoping for no mourners and no funerals thank you very much.

Three Dark Crowns

Three Dark Crowns comes out on September 20th

Three sisters and a fight to the death to see who gets the crown. Sounds like fun…

Empire of Storms

Empire of Storms comes out on the 6th

I’m forever back and forth on this series but I know other people who are over the moon excited about it.

So those are the things I’m most looking forward to this September. Hopefully it will be a good month for everyone!

Waiting on Wednesday: Crooked Kingdom

22299763

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine all about upcoming book releases that you are highly anticipating.

I love anticipating books and movies and shows. Love it. There’s all the hopefulness before they break your heart. Crooked Kingdom (September 27th) is top of the book anticipation list for me this year. You know, unless a certain author who shall not be named drops a date on a certain winter and Westeros related tome. 🙂

Top Ten Tuesday: My Most Anticipated Upcoming Releases

TTT

Top Ten Tuesday: Most Anticipated Upcoming Releases

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish & this one is about the books being released in the second half of the year that I am most excited for:

Strange the Dreamer – September 27th

Yeah, the synopsis doesn’t give away much on this one but I like the author and it sounds beautiful.

The Twelve Days of Dash and Lily – October 18th

I really love the first one & the cover looks very wintery which is something I’m strangely longing for at the start of summer!

This Savage Song – July 5th

This ones right around the corner!

18584855

Heartless – November 8th

A retelling of the Queen of Hearts story from one of my favorite recent authors. Totally signing up for this one!

Replica – October 4th

This one sounds fascinating. Apparently it’s two POV’s that you can chose how to read depending on how you want to read the book. A little confusing but I heard someone with an ARC say it sounds a little bit like Orphan Black so I’ll hop on this one since the show will be months into hiatus by then!

Furthermore – August 30th

A word which strangely I have a hard time typing! This one is apparently about a colorless child in a world of color who goes looking of her missing parent. I heard it compared to Alice so of course I’m in.

26864835

Blood for Blood – November 1

I loved the first book about a shapeshifter who undertakes a mission to kill Hitler in an alternative universe where he won World War II. Like most sequels I’m crossing my fingers to hope this one remains as good. It’s high on the list for me this Fall.

Gemina – October 18th

Okay, I wasn’t as in love with Illuminae as some but strangely I’m really looking forward to another go round. I’m loving books that are more in the found footage documentary kind of vein.

And finally my most anticipated book of the year:

22299763

Crooked Kingdom – September 27th

Cannot come soon enough! I absolutely loved the first one. The story. The characters. Not to mention this one is going to have red-lined pages. One of the increasingly rare books where I’m not looking forward to the story ending!
