Science-Fiction Book Suggestions for Newbies

A friend of mine recently asked what books I’d recommend for her niece to get into science-fiction and I thought, “Hey there’s an idea! I read enough and I love the idea of telling people what to read!” 🙂

Some of these books were literally gazing at me from my shelf. So anyway below are the books I think would help people launch themselves into the sci-fi genre. While I don’t believe in age limits on what books people should read (no one is to old for YA for instance) I tried to pick a good spectrum of books.

So Stannis Baratheon has two daughters in this who rush off into scandalous relationships and illegitimate children. No one burns alive. I think he’s finally learning. Which is a good thing because that’s not the kind of fire this movie needs.

Whoa! Two classics this year for me! I am on a roll 🙂

Embarrassing fact: I was totally one of those people who thought Frankenstein was the monster. I mean I figured it out long before I read it but yeah, I thought that way too long myself. I enjoyed the book. Surprised myself really. But since a lot has been written about it I thought I’d just basically transcribed some of the notes I took.
