At times I was absolutely going to DNF this book on account of it feeling like it was never going to end, among other things. But then I got to thinking if I didn’t finish I would never know if it ended or not or just kept running on and on.
And I felt like I had to finish. It was a vicious circle.

The Widow of Pale Harbor

When I read the synopsis of The Widow of Pale Harbor about a man with a secret past, a woman living in a big old mansion scorned by the town for fear she’s a witch and a series of escalating crimes based on the writings of Edgar Allen Poe I was like sign me up!
More than anything else I would classify this book as a romance and… do not sign me up.
I received a copy of Mooncakes from Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion. It’s scheduled to be released October 15th per Goodreads.
I was really looking forward to this one: witches and what seemed like cooking. No it doesn’t take much to make me happy but after thinking on it for a couple of days I’m very torn on Mooncakes.
Soul of the Sword

Just want to give fair warning Soul of the Sword is the sequel to Shadow of the Fox which was one of my favorite reads last year. So there will be spoilers for that book but not this one 🙂
Also I received a copy of Soul of the Sword from Netgalley in exchange for an honest opinion.
When I first started book blogging I told myself be careful of Netgalley. Don’t get overwhelmed with ARCS. I am a total mood reader and also one of the worst things you can do is give me any kind of reading deadline.
I’ve mostly kept to that and appreciate any ARCs that I do get but my relationship with Netgalley can definitely swing like a pendulum between moods.

Once Upon a River

Once upon a time a girl in the California desert was lucky enough to receive an arc of Diane Setterfield’s Once Upon a River. Her first read by the author and, if the river wills it, not her last.
It’s a story about stories. A story about lost children and a girl who seemingly rises from the dead but definitely from the river.
Harley and Ivy Meet Betty and Veronica

I actually have, at times, asked myself the same question Betty Cooper asks in this book… What would Harley Quinn do? I like to keep it legal though. 🙂 Still I was amused to see someone else asking the exact same thing!
Before Mars

What if they are out to get you? What if they are out to get you even on Mars? I rarely request books from Netgalley but this one just seemed so up my reading alley right now that I had to give it a go. Our main character Anna is a geologist and artist whose sent to the base on Mars in order to paint pretty pictures for her boss to sell. We are thrown into it pretty much from the minute she arrives from her solo flight.
