September: Scream Queens, Crooked Kingdom & Miss Peregrine

So September is the start of pretty much my favorite time of year and it’s also the start of a long list of (hopefully) great books and movies to come! On the television front there’s the return of:

Scream Queens Back to the madness! I can’t even explain this show but season one, despite all it’s many flaws, was entertaining as hell. I loved the Chanel’s. Great fashion. Great one liners. I’m hoping season two will at least be as fun.

Movie wise my big ones are:

The Light Between Oceans on September 2nd. I think I’m most looking forward to what Alicia Vikander does with Isabel, who was a book character that really stayed with me.

The Magnificent Seven on September 23rd

I’m not overly big on Westerns but this looks like it could be fun to me. Fantastic cast. And it looks beautiful. Especially Chris Pratt. 🙂

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children on September 30th

I liked this book (but didn’t really love it) yet it also has Eva Green starring and Tim Burton directing. The trailer looks lovely and the music caught my attention. I’m thinking this might be one I wind up liking the book better because of the  movie.

Book wise I might have mentioned this one a couple million times:

Crooked Kingdom finally comes out on September 27th

I don’t think I’m prepared for this one and I’m hoping for no mourners and no funerals thank you very much.

Three Dark Crowns

Three Dark Crowns comes out on September 20th

Three sisters and a fight to the death to see who gets the crown. Sounds like fun…

Empire of Storms

Empire of Storms comes out on the 6th

I’m forever back and forth on this series but I know other people who are over the moon excited about it.

So those are the things I’m most looking forward to this September. Hopefully it will be a good month for everyone!

Scream Queens

Scare Scale: 4/5 out of 10 (so far)

Creepy Factor: 6 out of 10 average

This show is so not me.

Even when I want to scare myself I don’t gravitate toward the killer genre. I never even saw all the Screams. Plus network television these days well, I never get to attached.

So far Scream Queens, about a killer in a Red Devil costume who targets a sorority, is exceedingly flawed, over the top, silly, offensive, funny… In other words it’s just plain old guilty pleasure entertainment. Plus it’s really nice to see Jaime Lee Curtis outside of the Activa commercials again.

The main questions seem to be:

 1.) Whose behind the Mask?

2.) Whose the baby? (The show starts off twenty years ago with a baby born in the sororities bath tub and the mother meeting an unpleasant fate.)

3.) What is up with the Dean?

Frankly I’m putting my money on Chanel #5 (Abigail Breslin) being the answer to question number one or two. She seems way suspicious.

Anyway this show is silly fluff but it’s fun for a couple of weeks. I’ve enjoyed what I’ve seen so far. Along with Jaime Lee Curtis and a vicious Emma Roberts I’m really enjoying Niecy Nash as possibly the worst security guard ever and surprisingly Glen Powell as the idiotic (but probably not deadly) Chad Radwell. A character whose grown on me but at the same time I’d be fine if they offed him soon.

Recommend: I’m not going to rate this until I’ve seen more. The basic bottom line- sometimes you just want to laugh and be entertained (and occasionally scared) this show is fulfilling the bill so far. Hopefully it will keep up the run.
