Harley’s Down But Don’t Count Her Out

Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn

So Birds of Prey was a bit of a box office downer.

Which seems like a bit of a surprise because on top of a slow box office, a popular character and great to good reviews & word of mouth- you think this would have been a slam dunk. You’d think it would have at least hit the bottom of estimates…

Stay Evil Dollface: Suicide Squad

Suicide Squad

Director: David Ayer

Grade: C

Oh, I wanted to love this one! I’ll admit- it was entertaining at times. It was well-acted. It had it’s moments but that’s what makes the mess even worse… it had so much potential to be more and it blew it! Actually, what makes it even worse is reading the behind the scenes and everything that went down with the studio.

I don’t know at this point whether the DCU needs to be saved from itself, it’s directors or it’s home studio.

August Releases: Finally Harley Quinn!

MOVIES:

August has arrived and with it perhaps the movie I’ve been anticipating longest- since the Comic-Con trailer dropped, last year.

Screen Shot 2016-08-01 at 11.20.26 AM

Suicide Squad  (August 5th:) Harley Quinn on the big screen at long last! I’m so hoping this will live up to the expectations.

(Currently Wonder Woman is fulfilling my “I can’t wait for this one thanks a lot Comic-Con!” movie slot.)

Florence Foster Jenkins (August 12) with Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant seems to be getting really good word of mouth. I’m torn on this one. I love the actors but I hate seeing people being embarrassed even if it’s only on film.

I’ll probably catch up with some releases I’ve missed and The Nice Guys will be out on DVD August 23rd – probably still in my top three of the year.

BOOKS:

Books!

The most exciting one for me is definitely :

28110143

Furthermore by Tahereh Mafi (August 30th) All you really have to do is give me a wild adventure and a heroine called Alice and I’ll be happy.

Other releases that caught my eye include:

The Thousandth Floor by Katherine McGee (August 30th)

&

A Torch Against the Night (August 30th) I haven’t actually read the first book in this series but it was $1.99 on Amazon so I bought it.

26114463

Jay Kristoff’s Nevernight comes out August 9th!

25522033

The Telling by Alexandra Sirowy

Despite the fact the date for this is August 2nd my Barnes and Noble had it out this weekend. Which mostly means I will be living at Barnes and Noble the weekend before Crooked Kingdom comes out 🙂 On the off chance they put it on shelves early!

July wasn’t a great reading month for me but I’m hopeful for August. (Since it’s starting with a return to Harry Potter’s world that’s a good sign!)

Hopefully everyone will have a great and happy August no matter what you read, watch or do!

Top Ten Tuesday: Books I Plan to Read this Summer

TTT

10 Books I Plan to Read This Summer

I’m not really big on the summer season. In fact books are pretty much what I use to get through until the Fall so these aren’t particularly summer related but here are some things I would really like to read in the next couple of months:

13227276

Suicide Squad

This is the movie I’m probably most excited for this summer. I love both Harley Quinn and Margot Robbie so I want to be ready.

20299683

Rat Queens

This one seems like a lot of fun. I’ve heard good things about it and Marvel just pissed me off with their Captain America stunt so I’m going to take a little break from them for a while.

17899948 39988

Matilda and Rebecca are, I grant you, two very different books but they’re both on my list of “classics” I wanted to read this year and they both seem good for summer months so that’s part of the plan!

I’ve stayed away from Sarah J. Maas books for fear of the hype factor but darned if I didn’t fall for it with these two and I’m going to be ordering them both right after I get paid 🙂

16096824 17927395

A Court of Thorns and Roses & A Court of Mist and Fury

(Think this might have something to do with a Court?) Anyway, everyone raves about these books- especially the second one- and I want to see why! I fall for the hype again. Speaking of there’s also Susan Dennard’s:

21414439

Truthwitch

I’ve been sitting on this one since January and I’m intrigued by it’s promise of a strong female friendship. We shall see!

There are several other books on my summer list including; Furiously Happy, This Savage Song, My Lady Jane and of course Winds of Winter

Okay, that last ones a dream but a girl can hope right?
