April Wrap-Up & May Plans

Taylor swift in me!

Spring is here and April was a very good month in entertainment. I watched my nephew for a week this month and despite predictions I did not sell him for books.

However I’m grateful we weren’t doing a swear jar or anything because even trying to watch myself I’d probably be broke.

the avengers team up for friendsgiving

So this weeks Top 5 Wednesday Topic is the Top 5 Characters You’d Invite for Friendsgiving and this really depends on what kind of Friendsgiving do you want to have.

Summer Reading & the Best Books of the Year

Summer Reading Tag

It seems like a perfect time for this tag since we’re in the middle of summer here and I’m in that spot where I’m happy in the summer shine and about to start endlessly complaining about it. This one was originally created on Youtube by Amy Jane Reads although I’ve seen a couple of summer tags floating around.

Book Recs for the Reputation Era!

Taylor Swift burning money

Seeing as how Taylor Swift’s Reputation tour kicks off today I thought I’d do a recommendation list of books that go will with this particular album/era.

Some go well with the album overall. Some go well with certain songs on the album and others are just about women embracing their reputations but also writing their own stories and in some cases about how we only know so many people by their reputations or our ideas of them and never really know the whole true person.

Christmas Tree

This weeks Top 10 Tuesday prompt is Books I’m Hoping Santa Brings. I’m adapting it just a bit to Books I’m Hoping Santa Brings into Existence because otherwise Santa’s told me, “You have zero self-control with books how is any one supposed to know what you don’t have!”

So below are some books I hope the elves getting cracking on in no particular order:

(Featuring celebrities & impossible books!)

Taylor Swift: This is our Song

Tyler Conroy

Grade: A

I bought this book because I like Taylor. I like pictures and to be honest, I was looking for something decorative and with a pop of color. This book is very red (appropriately) I just need a better camera 🙂

Sing

IMG_1540 Sing

Author: Vivi Greene

Grade: B

A nice airy little summer book that pretty much reads like Taylor Swift fan fiction. I mean look at the cover. I’m not crazy.

And I admit… it’s also a little bit why I picked it up.

Lily Ross is a pop superstar who falls in love very easily, gets her heartbroken and writes songs about it. After the latest boy breaks her heart she decides to skip town with her two best friends and hide out on a small island off the beaten path hoping to get herself back on path and write about something other than boys. This of course lasts for a split second before local boy Noel enters the picture.

Everything plays out exactly like you’d think from that point on- for the most part- I must admit I liked that the end wasn’t easy and it felt very life like. Favorite part? When one of her friends pointed out that she’d fall in love with a paper bag if it hung around her long enough.

I’m sorry. I laughed.

There’s not a lot to say about this one other than the Taylor connection. Everyone is likable. It’s all very cutesy. They hang out on the local boys boat, swim on the Fourth of July, do yoga. Those kinds of things.

So enjoyable- yes. Cute- yes. Quick- yes. But probably won’t stay with you longer than the summer itself.

Recommend: Yes.

Top Ten Tuesday: Dear Book Genie

TTT

Dear Book Genie:

I have been reading the Top Ten Tuesdays from Broke and Bookish ever since I found them at work but have never managed to remember to do one. Which is insane right? It’s always the same day of the week! However this Tuesday I have some wishes for the Book Genie. I keep it under ten though…

 1. You know how Stephanie Meyer redid Twilight but switched everyone’s gender & that was after E.L. James decided we needed Christian’s POV for another 50 Shades of Grey book? …

Let’s just nip this trend in the bud right here right now Genie!

 2. Celebrity Books: Anyone getting eight millions dollars for a book is just insane unless you bring back Shakespeare or something and I say that as someone whose counting down the days until Anna Kendrick’s book appears.

Celebrity Book Suggestions Genie: Taylor Swift Cookbook, Karlie Kloss Lifestyle Book, Amy, Tina & Mindy teaming up to write a children’s book?

      Yep, I’d buy them all.

3. Why does everything have to be a series now Genie? Maybe just take all the scheduled series and cut them in half and make them stand alone books? That would be awesome Book Genie!

And yes Genie probably the most obvious book wish of all…

 4. Winds of Winter- The season six show spoilers have me worried for the first time about where the book may be headed! I’m hanging on by a thread here with this series so anytime you’re ready Genie/Mr. Martin… I’ll even take a release date for the time being.
