Read Me in the Summer Time!

hot dog girl

I’m a big mood reader regardless but some times the seasons change and I just go looking for books that scream summer or winter. I definitely find myself reading more contemporaries in the summer months for instance.

So below are books that SCREAM summer time to me. A few I’ve read and recommend. A few on my TBR & one hot dog in the middle.

I’m currently listening to Hot Dog Girl and at about 30% in I’m enjoying it. Summer books often have life lessons for you- like if you can’t be the princess be the best damned tofu dog you can be.

I’d say any Emma Mill is good for summer time. But Famous in a Small Town is about the goings on over one summer in which among other things our characters are attempting to raise money for the marching band.

A lot of summer books seem to have the theme of the most perfect summer job ever and it’s closing down. That’s the case here but it involves ice cream and a business plan so bonus points. Plus its one of my favorite covers.

The Unlikelies is about a group of kids who come into an unexpected windfall over the summer and in what seems like a lovely change of place (at least to me) actually try to make the world a better place for it. There is some rougher stuff in this but I thought it was a lovely little book really.

Plus ice cream on the cover.

Just basically get yourself in the mood for convention season. There’s also: The Princess and the Fangirl, Geekerella, Ms. Marvel, Gotham City Sirens and I Hate Fairyland. Basically convention based books and some of the best graphic novels to get you in that summer mood.

Okay this is a controversial pick because I know a lot of people did not like this bratty main character, who starts off rough with an eye-rolling and property damaging practical joke. But weirdly for me… I liked her. She grew on you as the summer went on. For once I didn’t hate a romance. The budding friendship was nice. I liked the bits with her mother the social media influencer. Plus yummy sounding food truck.

Just all in all a fantastic summer read!

Now for a Couple Suggestions from my TBR:

Jenn Bennett’s Starry Eyes and Alex, Approximately just for the covers alone. I mean we’ve got what looks like a bonfire on here. Camping. Who knows? I don’t camp. But I totally want to read this book.

And really Bennett has some of the best contemporary covers going these days.

This is a Shakespeare retelling of The Taming of the Shrew. Which Shakespeare doesn’t exactly scream summer but this cover is fantastic love the pink. Love the outfit and it is one of his funnier works. Hopefully we get a great female character.

I mean it has summer in the title…

And seriously any book where the character is trying to find the best burger (or any kind of food really) is automatically going on my list. Plus this book is on my Kindle and as on last years Summer TBR so this year it’s going to happen!

Kids enjoying their summer job at the local old movie theater. Which to me sounds simply awesome. Free movies! I think they find out this is closing down as well which does play into that save the summer job theme so many of these books seem to love!

I hope everyone has a great time this summer and we all get to everything on our TBR’s! 😉

It could happen right?
