Scrappy Little Nobody
Author: Anna Kendrick
Grade: B+
Scrappy Little Nobody was definitely one of my most anticipated books of 2016. I really enjoy Anna Kendrick as an actress and her interviews and Twitter are usually hilarious. In large part because she seems so very relatable.
I think she’s just one of those people who say things that everyone (or at least me) goes, “Yeah, I was thinking it,” or “Hey, that’s just like me…”
So I think maybe I was a bit too hyped or expecting Twitter thoughts to be turned into a three-hundred page book or something… I’m not exactly sure what I was expecting so I have to admit I was a little bit disappointed. This is pretty typical of a celebrity “memoir,” especially one whose still very much in the business.
Don’t expect anything juicy or delicious- she even admits as much promising we’ll get those when she’s eighty or something. There’s a lot of her childhood and her early career. I felt there was a little too much of that I’m just like you and I’m really a big loser trying to be an adult human! It’s always nice to read that of course and Kendrick can mostly pull it off but when it’s juxtaposed with you know, being sewn into a diamond choker and dress for the Oscars I did occasionally find myself rolling my eyes.
I also felt like there was some definite filler in here. The Target copy had a whole bonus chapter that was pointless and I’m not completely sure I needed to know what kind of holiday parties she plans but doesn’t throw. (I have my own delusional in my head parties after all.)
Still, it was funny and Anna Kendrick is absolutely charming and relatable. I liked the fact that she did emphasize how hard she worked as a child and how hard it was for her parents and family to follow her dream sometimes. It’s important for people to hear. She didn’t just wake up one day and get everything she wanted. Well, it’s important for me to hear. 🙂
Recommend: Yes. If you are an Anna Kendrick fan of course. I will also cross my fingers I’m still around when she does write her tell-all because that’s sure to be awesome.
