Book Recs for the Don’t Worry Darling Drama

Harry Styles and Miss Flo

I was going to do a list of Fall Book Recommendations but I thought book recs for the Don’t Worry Darling drama would be more fun! And honestly kind of fall vibes anyway 🙂 Anyway if you don’t follow behind the scenes Hollywood stuff like me here’s a good guide to the Venice Film Festival goings-on.

And no I’m not the biggest fan of Harry Styles but I don’t think he spit on Chris Pine… at least not on purpose. On accident? Hey these things do occasionally happen.

Let’s start at the top: Miss Flo herself.

For her there’s actually two of my all time favorites:

Circling the Sun

Circling the Sun is the fictionalized story of Beryl Markham an early 20th century adventurer and record breaking aviator. Amongst other things. There’s a lot going on in this one. Markham’s life was full of enough drama to make several movies and Flo shouldn’t just read it but honestly option the rights and play her in the film version because now that I’ve thought about it I can’t stop thinking about that… Same with…

Z The Story of Zelda Fitzgerald

I’m mean honestly look at the Venice pictures and tell me there’s not a better person around to play Zelda Fitzgerald be it a modern update or not.

And then we move onto the director who should probably just let the film speak for itself right now. Miss Olivia Wilde herself.

Blood Sweat and Chrome

This is a detailed history of the behind the scenes making of Mad Max: Fury Road told in an interview format mostly. But honestly you could put any one of the numerous behind the scenes making of books here and it would work. Drama. Drama. Drama.

the seven husbands of evelyn hugo

There’s a lot going on in The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo which is about an aging actress telling the true story of her life to a young reporter. Olivia might want to consider picking this one up to think about same with Taylor Jenkins Reid other book Daisy Jones and the Six…

And then there’s Mister Harry Styles himself.

Harry Styles in Don't Worry Darling

This one was hard because I actually read one of his favorite books, Watermelon Sugar, and boy, boy it was… well not every book is going to speak to you. But he seems like the type that would like something a little (or a lot) out there like…

Which I could never really get into myself.

Or something along the lines of Joan Didion or Eve Babitz…

Sex and Rage

It’s a book of lifestyle kind of essays that’s very LA what is the meaning of this life if there’s any meaning at all I think he might really vibe with.

And last but not least there’s the man of style himself. Mister I’d Rather Be Anywhere but Here Chris Pine!

Chris Pine

I think he’d be a Discworld fan. Also since this has turned into like a book recommendation casting sessions he’d be a great…

Mort Discworld

Or maybe Captain Vimes if anyone ever did live action series and really Netflix or someone should get on that!

I also think he’d go for something like…

Piranesi

There’s good roles for him in this odd story as well. Which is hard to explain and definitely not as easy as Don’t Worry Darling to see where it’s going. Maybe I should just be a book recommending casting director 😉

So there you go. I’m still super excited for the film, perhaps more so now and recommend all the above books for drama and Fall vibes!
