A Pizza Made of Books

Slice Harvester: A Memoir in Pizza

By: Colin Atrophy Hagendorf

So I finally read Slice Harvester for Non-Fic November. It’s been on my TBR since it came out so I was pretty proud of myself.

Though in all honest I have mixed feelings on the book. Only the pizza in New York stuff interests me- and it was impressive the way he could write about pizza. If you are also interested in the punk scene go for it. Otherwise I thought I’d build my perfect pizza via books.

Crust: I like my base thick perfectly cooked but just a little burnt around the edges. So a book or series that burnt me…

It’s not that I didn’t overall enjoy this series while reading. It’s just that the big end in A Court of Wings and Ruin or War and Ruin, whatever, was such a cop-out! I’ve honestly liked it less the further I’ve gotten away from reading it.

Although I have to admit if Martin doesn’t finish I’m going to consider ASOIAF a burn as well.

Sauce: Well-proportioned. I like my sauce not to overpower things but at the same time to have spice and a kick. So a book that was just the perfect amount saucy…

I’m not that big into romance books but I did enjoy this one and all things considered since they were both so damned precious and adorable I occasionally wanted to vomit… we did get some nice and saucy scenes!

Cheese: Just the right amount. (I have a pattern with pizza apparently- I like everything to be the “right” amount.) But I hate too much cheese. So a character that was just the right amount of cheesy for me…

Thorne forever!

Carswell Thorne and his relationship with Cress were the perfect amount of cheesy for me.

Meat: Vegetarian Pepperoni. Which I mean except for the vegetarian part is seemingly a pizza classic and pizza is an all occasion kind of food. So a classic for all occasions…

Anne of Green Gables is a classic I read for the first time this year and absolutely loved it. I also imagine Anne would enjoy a pizza every now and again!

Sidekicks: Onions and Jalapeno Peppers. Literally my favorite thing on a pizza- okay, I put onion and peppers on everything so there’s that. But a book in which the supporting characters stole the show…

Other than the fact that he liked books I was never big on Lazlo or his and Sarai’s romance to be honest. But I adored Minya throughout the series and actually I can’t think of a supporting character in this book I didn’t like. I’d also so with The Raven Cycle for this answer.

Best Served Cold:  I prefer my pizza cold actually. Like the next morning on the way out the door. It’s a very portable breakfast. So a good book to take on a commute…

The Humans by Matt Haig. It’s a great little read with a very uplifting message and not one that takes a while. I’d also add Nikita Gills poems and prose books Wild Embers and Fierce Fairytales. Both will put you in the mood to face the day!

A Nice Cold Drink: Pizza is like the only time I will have soda. Shirley Temples are my favorite drink with pizza (so edgy right?) So a character or characters I’d love to have a drink with…

Gert needs a drink.

There are several characters I’d have a drink with to be honest films and movies. But who wouldn’t enjoy a Shirley Temple with the over-sugared adult trapped in a child’s body psychopath known as Gert? After so long in Fairyland she’d also probably really enjoy a pizza.

  1. Love your book-pizza! 😀 Haha. Fun post 🙂
Anne of Green Gables is defo a classic staple. Also, the fact that it’s a veggie pepperoni makes perfect sense. Anne is such an innocent character <3

  2. haha I love this idea!! I really agree with you about the ending of ACOWAR being a big cop out as an ending. I was so disappointed! Ahh Carswell Thorne and Cress were the right amount of cheese for me too! Anne of Green Gables is a great classic 😀 Humans sounds so good as well 🙂 Really awesome list!

  3. I am so happy you love Josh & Hazel’s Guide skldjfksl,,,,it brings so much joy to my very soulllll

also, I’m currently reading Strange the Dreamer and so far I really love Lazlo because he is so nerdy and wholesome???? but i’m not even on page 100 though so I hope he stays adorable

I love this entire post sm

    1. I read that after seeing your post on Josh and Hazel and then all I couldn’t think in my mind was Emilia Clarke for Hazel! I think she’s best in comedies anyway. And I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Strange and Lazlo!

      1. oh gosh, Emilia Clarke would be SO AMAZINGLY PERFECT???? we need to send this idea to Netflix absolutely right now

  4. “I’ve honestly liked it less the further I’ve gotten away from reading it.” - my thoughts exactly on that particular Maas’ series. I still haven’t finished book 3 and honestly, I don’t think I even want to. It was so boring, I am more than half way though but always read a few pages and just have to stop. Dunno, not my thing I guess.

I am still on the fence with Strange the Dreamer - it has so many great reviews but I really struggled with the Daughter of Smoke & Bone series and gave up on it somewhere during book 2. Hmmm… I am undecided yet. My curiosity may win though.

Fun post! I like my pizza thin crust with olives and lots of Parmesan cheese. 🙂

    1. Yeah, the third book especially the ending was such a let down. Daughter of Smoke and Bone was a bit of a struggle at times. The love story got on my nerves Strange but I do think it did a better job of dealing with bigger issues and myths. I definitely liked the latest most!

  5. I don’t think I will ever come across anyone who didn’t enjoy Anne of Green Gables, that book is so all-round wholesome! I have a feeling there’ll be a lot of spoilers in Winds of Winter that will spoil the final season, so I think we can expect it after the show has reached its conclusion.
