Well they certainly didn’t half-ass the sex scenes.
I caught the new version of Lady Chatterley’s Lover on Netflix cause I’ve bypassed Christmas movies I guess and jumped right into period dramas. However definitely not a mistake as it’s the best version I’ve seen.
Emma Corrin stars as Lady Chatterley who starts up an affair with her husbands gamekeeper (Jack O’Connell). What starts as a hot affair turns into a love story however that threatens everything. Both actors are great they have real chemistry with each other, and boy you can tell.
I actually bought this love story.
Also superficially I loved the costumes. I would wear everything she wore in the film. And honestly I don’t even think people would look at me that strangely.
Especially this dress.
Okay where was I?
Sex. Clothes. Chemistry.
Oh they also do a good job with the class differences and the changing times. It’s not a big part of the film but it works through the character of Clifford.
Generally an obnoxious guy who treats people who aren’t his class (and his wife) as lesser things. There’s some dialogue that will make your blood boil. I was like buddy you are so going to deserve what’s coming.
Also I liked what they did with Mrs. Bolton (Joely Richardson- the first Lady Chatterley I saw on screen). They gave her a bit of an update with more of a backstory (at least I assume so having never read the novel). It surprised me how much of a friend, or at least how much more understanding, she gave Connie this time around.
So all in all did what an adaptation of Lady Chatterley’s Lover should do: a pretty film that hit on the social/class differences involved and the changing times with some solid performances all around. Especially by Emma Corrin and Jack O’Connell and bonus points for the actually good sex scenes!
